Will Farrell was perfect for this part his acting of this innocent Elf was priceless... I laughed throughout the movie I can't wait to watch it again this year

I thin had Farley been cast as Buddy, then people would be posting on this thread about how he was the perfect choice, so, yes, I think Farley would have been fine. It certainly would have been a different interpretation, probably more manic and not as cute, but still good. I think Elf, like many other good movies, are good because some ideas got tossed to the wayside. I just hope they never do a sequel or a re-boot. It's fine the way it is.

0:16 Will Ferrel wasn’t acting here, and the taxi cab was real. Ferrel thought the cab was gonna hit him but it missed him by just a few inches which means his reaction to almost getting hit was genuine!

it certainly would have been a different movie with Chris Farley in it. The out of place fat guy instead of the out of place tall guy. It probably would have been even more physical than it was. But Chris Farley in Tommy Boy (my favorite movie of his) showed he could bring something else to a role. I think it showed people what he was capable of just like Elf did for Ferrell. Elf is my favorite Ferrell movie, and my family watches it every year. Ferrell was definitely the perfect choice.

Even if casting wouldn’t change Chris died in 1997 so either way recast would have happened
