If you want to make a knit look you can try doing Tunisian knit stich. It is crochet but gives a knit look :)

That tool is called a knitting needle gauge. It measures the size of knitting needles of there are no size marks or the marks faded on the needles. The numbers along the middle line is the needle size. A crochet hook gauge has and open side because the hook part is normally larger than the body, so you can't just poke it through a hole like that.

If the tool helps you figure out which hook to use for a particular yarn, then great! Just be aware that this tool is for determining what size hook you have if it isn't labeled by feeding the hook through the hole, not the yarn.

It may not be the best for figuring out the yarn weight or a reccomended crochet hook. A wraps per inch tool, looking up recommended hook sizes by yarn weight, and testing for your particular tension are probably a better approaches to finding the best hook for a given yarn.

the tool is called a needle gauge, and I think you just put your hook or knitting needle through it to know what size it is, I don't think you're meant to be putting the yarn through it

Knitting is actually really easy to pick up (specifically just a basic knit stitch) so if you really want a knit look it’s not very hard to learn to knit a sweater, scarf, or even gloves!

I saw a video once that suggested doing a row of hdc in the blo then a row of slip stitches in the blo to create a ribbed knit look! Haven't tried it myself but it looked really nice 😍
