After using the mini 2019 retina display, when I look back at the cheaper iPad, the screen looks dim, really reflective, and pixelated. Edit: I used to own an iPad Air 2 and comparing that to the cheaper iPad, the iPad Air 2 imo is better due to much better speakers, much better screen (sharpness, colours, contrast), and it felt nicer in the hands.

I’ve had the 2018 IPad since it first came out. Has worked flawlessly. The things the reviewer brought up has not been an issue for me. If you want to pay more for a smaller tablet that’s your decision.

I bought the 2018 ipad when it first came out. The speakers are fine. I play games like NBA live mobile and when I was a grad student I used it for taking notes and collecting data for my research. I also draw on it. The 2018 ipad is fine. If you want to pay more for a smaller screen then go right ahead.

I went to the Apple Store to do this sort of testing. My biggest concern was the drawing gap (like on the base model iPad.) It's very clear that the iPad mini is a solid upgrade (for those who are committed to them. I love a lighter and smaller device for reading vs. a large iPad.)

Id go for the mini just b3cause of the size. The laminated display, faster processor and apple pencil support is a bonus.
