The anamorphic revolution continues with the new Sirui 75mm Anamorphic lens.
This is the 4th lens from Sirui that has made anamorphic video both affordable and easy.

Sirui just released the amazing 75mm F1.8 anamorphic lens that also has a 1.33 times squeez aspect. This means that when shooting with this lens, just like on all their other lenses, you get a 33% horizontal field of view increase. This lens works on MFT and APS-C cameras which shoot in standard 16 by 9 aspect ratio. The final image will be de-squeezed by 1.33 times which results in a ultra-wide cinemascope video with an aspect ratio of 2.4:1

The wider aspect ratio is not the only reason why most people choose to shoot with anamorphic lenses. Some of the other anamorphic characteristics that this lens produces are those beautiful oval bokeh highlights. This lens has 13 aperture blades which is why it produces perfectly smooth and natural looking bokeh.

Another characteristic are the typical horizontal lens flares. What I do love about this lens is that aside from the blue light streaks it also produces very organic looking secondary flares and light blooms. By having a light source hit the front of the lens at an angle you can produce beautiful glows and haze effects that take away a bit of that digital edge from today’s ultra high definition cameras.

Another great thing about the Sirui 75mm lens is that it’s surprisingly sharp considering it has actual anamorphic optics inside. Unlike standard spherical lenses, most anamorphic lenses suffer from terrible softness specially when shooting wide open. Well this lens can deliver relatively sharp images when shooting wide open at F1.8 but once you close the lens down just one F-stop you will notice it’s as sharp as any good spherical lens.

Now if you want that soft and shallow depth of field then this lens will deliver even better than the previous lenses from Sirui. Considering it is a longer focal length of 75mm and that it’s an anamorphic lens, you will not have any problems getting that very narrow focus that creates a nice separation from the background and foreground.

Even when I was shooting with this lens on a micro four thirds camera I was able to get a shallow depth of field both when my subject was close to the lens or even as far as 20 feet away. If you get the APS-C version of this lens that will be even more noticeable.

I have been undecided on which new camera to get for months. I was torn between A7S III and Pocket 6K Pro but this video made me pull the trigger on the Pocket 4K and all the four Sirui lenses. I love the soft 80's look of these lenses. This combo is what I have been looking for. The shots are very beautiful, great work Tom!

Amazing.... this lens produces such beautiful cinematic images, and is so easy on the eyes. A refreshing change from those over sharpened images we have had to endure the past number of years. I really love the images produced in the samples shown here.

Yes! I really love working with this lens. I’m about to shoot a project with the 35 and 75. All of them in the set are awesome. Great review as always.

My only complaint with the sirui lenses is the blue colored flaring. I like some of the cinema ones where the flare is the same color as the light source, the blue looks out of place on very warm sets and against the sun. Other than that this lens is absolutely incredible

Hey, Tom! Great video. I’m about to grab the 75mm. My question is what is the music you used for this video?!?

This might be bringing back BMX racing vids closer back to the 80‘s. Is the 75 best to start. I assume so since I will be shooting at distances between 5 and 20 metres. Am I right? Thanks for the advise

What is the 75mm on a pocket 4k? 200mm?
What happens if you put a wide angle converter on it will it make it a 1.6 squeeze?

I am new to anamorphic. Do the Sirui anamorphic lenses work best on a micro four thirds sensor, or on an APS-C sensor....? Or are they just different with field of view, due to the difference between the sensor size between 4/3rds and APS_C? I do like the anamorphic look, and trying to decide between the two systems of either micro four thirds, or an APS-C type camera. (ie: Lumix GH-5 versus Nikon Z 6II in APS-C mode).

Hi, thank you so much for this video, I own the panasonic anamorphic lens and fabricated a special adapter for my Canon Scoopic 16mm camera back in the days. I am planning to sell everything and move to digital Anamorphic and trully hesitate between the Fuji Xt4 system that shoots uncompressed 10 bit video from camera and the black magic system... The fujifilm trully attracks me because it also has all the fuji film filters from camera that are very usefull for jpeg photography and on the fly videography without having to color grade in post for every day video.

is it just me or is there some chromatic bloom, kinda reminds me or rokinon how the edges are in focus but just not crisp, somewhat dirty falloff. or is that just the youtube compression of the pocket? i'm seeing it a lot in the highlights. not that i want things to be digital sort of sharp, but i prefer smoother falloff of the softness.

Can these lenses be used on sony full frame cameras?

the blue flaring on these is quite horrendous, especially when it double flares. i which they would make it more subtle and natural like a Cooke lens and not so bold in your face.

How do you mount it on your Pocket 4k?
