Xbox Series X REVIEW: One Year Later

It’s been just over a year since the Xbox Series X launched, and during that time we’ve seen new games, updated features and new accessories. But what’s it actually like to use, and what improvements have we seen since it was released? Is Game Pass worth it?

Today I’ll be covering my first year gaming on the Xbox Series X, showing the games, console design, performance, storage options, UI and the Xbox app.

As an owner of both, the Series X is fantastic. The Dualsense has changed my world so I tend to buy games on PS, however I am a huge fan of GamePass.

Whilst it’s kind of mentioned, I think it’s really important to note that from a storage perspective, xbox, 360 and one games can be played from external hard drives. I got a massive 4TB one and manage my memory by storing anything not optimised to that and keep anything that is optimised on there as it’s much faster to transfer from there than re download from the internet. Love my Series X since launch day. Such a great evolution of the Xbox one. Game pass is a total game changer.

I bought it for Forza Horizon 5 mainly. Hands down my favourite racing game of all time. Absolutely brilliant and looks superb. Also, biggest thing for me is the load times. I know it sounds silly, but we’re so used to devices instantly getting you into content now (phones, iPads etc). Couldn’t go back to an old system with the mega long load and boot up times.

I had the elite controller a while back and I absolutely loved that thing, eventually I bought a PC and now I play on keyboard and mouse, my friends convinced me to buy a scuff to play warzone and I returned that thing immediately, the elite feels way better, looking forward to the review

Thanks for the review! I got my Series X a few days after Christmas last year (coming from a PS3). I'm blown away at the graphics and game play of Forza Horizon 5 and Halo Infinite. I just got Elden Ring and cannot wait to dive in. Cheers!

Great review as always. I got my Xbox Series X 💚 a few months ago and I'm loving it. Forza Horizon 5 was the main reason why I chose it over the PS5, but the game pass is just incredible.

I’m really looking forward to Hellblade 2. I thought the first game was a masterpiece in immersion and puzzle solving. The combat was fun but I’d love to see it improved

I ended up picking up the elite series 2 for my X, and I’ve been very pleased with it so far. Really love the button customization.

Halo Infinite is my current favorite game on XSX, most fun I've had in Halo since Halo 3. Can't wait for Elden Ring to come out as it's what I have always wanted from From.

I really wanted to get an X but ended up getting the S. And honestly I'm super impressed as well! I'm starting to also dig xbox cause of game pass.. Regardless, well done video Chris!!

i got my series X about 4 months ago and it still blows my mind, really cant complain much besides the 1tb ssd doesn't seem to be enough to have lots of S/X games. 9.8/10

I just got one about a month ago and i’m in love. Pair it with a monitor that can support the 120hz and you’ll be amazed. It’s night and day compared to the xbox one, and can play basically every single game on game pass with absolutely zero lag.

Long-term Xbox fan, currently own the Series X and just got the PS5. Love the controller for PS5 and got the system for the exclusives. Now after some time with it, I love both consoles, each have their own pros and cons but just now fortunate enough to have both and not be limited to console exclusives!

By far the best console hardware I've ever owned from Day 1. Definitely lives up to it's name as the world's most powerful console. The PS5 is also amazing but I have had a less seemless experience on it compared to the Xbox.

I went from the PS4 Pro to an Xbox Series X. Not for any reason but I wanted to try something new. My last Xbox was the Xbox 360 (red ring of death) but I’m super impressed with the Series X 💚. I got an elite controller too and putting the thumb sticks as smooth, aggressive or instant has made a massive difference to me and playing FPS and movement is quick. What I can’t find much info on is Dolby Vision Gaming, does it make a difference or is it just more of a preference? Is it smoother or something? I think the future either way will be awesome and I can’t wait
