I think your rush to pull the tank before studying filming it, worked out to making this video the best I've seen while doing the least disassembly, and reinstall. Only thing that bugged the crap out of me was that you didn't clean much beyond the rotors ( which glad you did ) didn't mention checking out bushings for dry rot or damage. Respect for you my dude, you hit her with potential hero energy and still saw the shortest path to getting the tank out without breaking everything. You got my vote for career advancement and your chill attitude after all you've been through in the last 24-48 hrs is serial killer scary .

I replaced the tank this way today and let me tell you I’m so happy I didn’t drop the whole rear end. Thanks for uploading the video!

Great video and beautiful bugeye WRX. I am going to have to change the one valve on the top of my gas tank that has failed and I am dreading taking the tank out but after watching this it doesn't seem too bad of a job.

This is huge for me becase my rear diff nuts are rusted. Nothing else really is though so this give me another opportunity.

Thanks for the super helpful video. I can confirm this procedure will also work on a 98 WRX. Although at 26" elevation I had to lower the diff almost to the floor, which can be done if you remove both sets of retaining brackets for the handbrake cable.👌

just so ya know in the future. the gas tank actually has a pump in it designed to pump gasoline. you can put a hose on the outlet and apply 12 volts and effortlessly remove pretty much all the gasoline from the tank

You didn't pull the drive shaft or even the mid way collar or whatever it's called?

does the way you dropped the subframe mess up your front differential outrigger bushings? the ones under the rear doors on the rocker?
