Because it's awfully hard to keep a full NBC seal when there's a big hole in the tank with a fan on it

Guys if you notice a bulge on your barrel you need to get that checked out IMMEDIATELY.

Tanks raise their barrels after firing to align the barrel with the auto loader or in the case of tanks that have manual crew loaders it helps the crew member get the shell in slightly easier

dont worry if your tank bulge is smaller than the other bulges its whats on the inside that counts

breif explanation, when the round passes small holes in the barrel, it creates a low pressure area inside the fume extractor, this pulls the fumes into it and out of the breach end of the gun. if in a manually loaded the gun jumps up that is the El Uncouple function which disconnects the gun from the elevation mechanism to allow the loader to more easily load the gun

The way it works is, when it fires, gasses goes to holes in the barrel that the bulge is encasing, into the void, filling & pressurising it. And when gas pressure in the barrel goes weaker, pressurised gas in the void wants to go out and pushes the rest of the gas out. That's why the puff of smoke after the gun is fired

The barrel being raised after firing is to help align the gun with an auto loader or to ease a manual loaders job, it goes back to position after

Actually, many French tanks use a blow-out system that was invented by the Germans in WW2 but, as with many German WW2 systems, while it wasn't a bad idea in itself, the systems had reliability issues and it rather complex nature contributed to their tanks being overenigeered. As such it made life harder for mechanics tasked with fixing tanks with these systems and logistics officers who had to arrange for spare parts.

..well with that opening tagline Cone, ..jokingly it's because they're pleased to see you ?! :P...

..and not a self-acting fume extractor system.

The bulge in the barrel was a feature that appeared as an evolutionary adaptation to the modern needs of the tank during mating season. The cooler the bulge, the greater the chance of attracting a mate. The placement and location of the bulge helps the different subspecies in finding others of the same type to mate with.

Leclerc being again the coolest tank smoking out the smoke of the shot after firing like if the crew was smoking Gauloise inside 😂

The barrel is raised after firing purely to angle the breach downward and make it easier to load for the crewmen. If a tank has an autoloader then it automatically angles up for the reload and then a computer resets the barrel to the position it was at prior to reloading. If u ever see dudes loading the cannon in a tank they usually gotta push the new rounds kinda upward as they push it into the breach

Tank guns have catalytic converters lol

They rise the tank's gun to align the gun with the autoloader, or in case of a manual load, to make it easier and accessible for the crew to reload

I think the reason why people thought smoke was vented by lifting up the barrel is because most tanks lift up the barrel to make loading easier after shooting.

The barrel being raised after each shot is a computer raising the barrel up to help the loading process, and the computer brings the barrel to the exact same spot after the shot

In fact, raising the barrel would not help make the smoke get off the barrel, because it is denser than air, so it would fall back into the turret had the cannon not had the bulge

The lifting of the barrel after firing action is for easing the human loader to load the tanks, tanks with autoloader will level the gun straight relative to the tanks but tanks like the french AMX M4 or AMX 13 and the likes that uses autoloader doesn't need to level it's gun because the auto loader is fixed to the turret and will always be aligned with the gun
