I agree with you.

Capturing *genuine* emotion in art is SUCH a hard thing to do. Even just the *slightest* mistake can make the face go from being full of joy and whimsy, to being straight out of uncanny valley.

as an artist, that frustrated "I'm tired of realism!!" is such a strong and true feeling. art is like a person's perception of life, and that's usually not just what is happening in front of them.

I think you captured her essence amazingly! Don't be afraid of trying something different if you feel so Scott, because will all be here to support you!

For some reason i dont see the joy in her face the most (yes she has a happy expression but it’s more than that) i see the joy in her hair. Her beautiful bouncy red curls that you painted so gorgeously. You did an amazing job at not only her face but also capturing the emotion and lively energy in her hair❤

It's nice to hear people talk about that struggle between realism and styalism that seems so hard to find the right point at. Though, I'm sure we'll find the right point for each of us if we keep at it! Great work, Scott!

You should definitely try drawing her in one of her drag looks! Maybe the whimsy of the makeup and the look might help convey that joy

As a massive fan of both Chapel and you, I think you captured her emotions perfectly. The joy radiates through the painting

Tbf her expression in your photo almost looks like a pained smile rather than an excited happy smile.

You definitely caught her happiness in this! Honestly, make art for yourself, not others, and it's completely OK to try new styles ❤ Your videos always make my day and give me motivation and confidence :D

I think a lot of the emotion comes through when an artists enjoys what they do. Sometimes you can tell when someone is just having fun when they create through their work

The final shot, zooming out of her colourful and elated face to show the full piece, made me smile so hard my cheeks hurt, which I think is the true test of capturing emotion in art. It made me instantly joyous to see on a deep level, and while some people may have different reactions, you at least made one fan of you, your art, colour, and Chappel Roan very, very happy.

He posted this the day after my birthday and I was trying to draw and kinda felt the same.
Your art doesn’t have to be perfect, it just has to convey a message, a story.

It's not what you see in the painting, it's how it makes you feel

I feel as an artist, its hard to convey an emotion which you dont feel yourself. When I look at your painting, I feel that shes masking her sadness with joy. It doesnt make your painting less bad, its beautiful. But thats how I feel when I look at it

I’m excited for you trying new styles, but I always see so much emotion in your art! I feel like you capture the essence of the person and what they’re feeling in your portraits.

Chappell roan has one of the most beautiful smiles I've ever seen because it's genuine. you can feel the honesty dripping through her music and photos, which is kinda like this dude's art! it doesn't have to be perfect. it doesn't have to encapsulate an emotion perfectly.
the effort is there. its real, it's honest, it's life. I always respected this guy because he showed the process of art, including all the mistakes. and to me that's worth a lot.
I hope we can continue to grow and see him grow over the years.

I think the bold color choices works really well with Chappell and its great to see you try new things with your art, cause it still feels like art. Id love to see you do more of her iconic looks :)
