LYRICS
My friends call me a loser
‘Cause I’m still hanging around
I’ve heard so many rumors
That I’m just a girl that you bang on your couch

I thought you thought of me better
Someone you couldn’t lose
You say we’re not together
So now when we kiss I have anger issues

You said baby no attachment
But we’re

Knee deep in the passenger seat
And you’re eating me out
Is it casual now?
Two weeks and your mom invites me
To her house in Long Beach
Is it casual now?
I know what you tell your friends
It’s casual
If it’s casual now, then
Baby get me off again
If it’s casual
It’s casual now

Dumb love
I love being stupid
Dream of us in a year
Maybe we’d have an apartment
And you’d show me off to your friends at the pier

I know baby no attachment
But we’re

Knee deep in the passenger seat
And you’re eating me out
Is it casual now?
Two weeks and your mom invites me
To her house in Long Beach
Is it casual now?
I know what you tell your friends
It’s casual
If it’s casual now, then
Baby get me off again
If it’s casual
It’s casual now

It’s hard being casual
When my favorite bra lives in your dresser
It’s hard being casual
When I’m on the phone talking down your sister
I try to be the chill girl
That holds her tongue and gives you space
I try to be the chill girl
But honestly I’m not

Knee deep in the passenger seat
And you’re eating me out
Two weeks and your mom invites me
To her Long Beach house
I know what you tell your friends
Baby get me off again

Fucked you in the bathroom
When we went to dinner
Your parents at the table
You wonder why I’m bitter
Bragging to your friends
I get off when you hit it
I hate to tell the truth
But I’m sorry dude, you didn’t
I hate that let this drag on so long
Now I hate myself
Hate that I let this drag on so long
You can go to hell

The way that the relationship is only allowed in an environment and under conditions where the one with the power thrives is so significant. So well done!

That end shot. Ouchhh. like, “she didn’t kill me, she just left me”

I know we all adore Chappell but can we talk about her acting skills??? All those tiny subtle things... She's just incredible.

how she jst calmly takes down the decor while it cuts to her screaming and ripping stuff apart emotionally it was perfect

This is such a cute and cinematic way of showing a toxic relationship. A siren? Perfect visual for the person you're emotional over, using you and never committing to anything other than a means to an end. The guy escaping, bloody and scared, warning you to not go closer, yet you get addicted and entranced anyways? You're always hanging out at spots that she feels safe at and in control of? The bathtub, the pool, literally making the literal monster more comfortable. Then she just walks away, you're dancing and smiling and she just drops you because that's how it feels. So confusing and cold. The contrast of her cool tones against your warm tones to symbolize your feelings towards the relationship is amazing. Visuals, makeup, everything, I'm in love. You're so creative.

Edit- oh, and the popsicle matching your tones, to symbolize that right from the start, she took a chunk of of you. She took a bite out of your metaphorical sweetness, and therefore left you emptier than you were before her, and you just melted on her tounge because she knows what she's doing. The expected red syrup that usually drips on you upon melting it, can't even be seen because she has blood on her mouth, a literal red flag, but you ignore it because it matches the redness of what she just took from you, you taking that as a sign of infatuation instead of danger. And how she sexually bites the popsicle, to make sure she has your attention, attributing to the fact that she was a creature of lust, instead of commitment, all along.

the parallel, after the siren’s rejection, between the chappell in the tv—the crying, yelling, tearing everything down in pure fury—and the real chappell—calmly and gently pulling down the decorations—is such a perfect representation of the façade you put on to please others and make it seem like you’re okay versus your real feelings, trapped inside your head

it breaks my heart when she sings: I know, "Baby, no attachment". You can feel the pain in her voice.

I’ve never heard anyone sing “you’re eating me out” this beautifully

I think one of favorite parts of this music video is the symbolism of changing your entire personality for the siren so that you could be “good enough”. Covering your room with underwater creatures and seaweed and completely covering up the previous decorations and the switch from bright patterned clothes to the green colored sweater and the seashell hat. This music video is such a masterpiece, and the song is equally as amazing.

the way she accommodates for the siren and gets nothing in return, leaving her to tear it all down by herself😭😭💔

As a woman, I've never felt so warm towards music and artist. For the first time in my life it feels like It's made FOR women and actually there for our evaluation.
No men presence or reference for even sales purpose. I feel so comfortable being in Chappell's fandom.

4:24 kills me. Her expression when she sees blood on the siren's face and knows what she’s been up to, then the immediate and literal “let’s brush it off”. I know that look of betrayal all too well, Chappell nailed it.

In true Geriatric Millennial style, I am both late to the Chappell Roan party as well as utterly delighted by her quilt coat.
