seems useless to me now, if you can't track something if it gets lost (EX if someone steals your wallet) what's the point????

But how far can they be tracked from? You didn't answer the question in the video title!

So, it is useless if I attach it to my bike and using it for getting to the train station, park the bike there, take the train to work and come back later in the evening. If my bike is stolen, the tag can not be detected in a 10-20 miles range from where it was.

How could you loose your dog in the same room ?

Curious: How far down/ depth in the ocean can an air tag be tracked and if lost in the ocean? Example: downed plane or boat drifting with no communication?

Not good for recovering a stolen bike. It's good for finding your keys in your house.

The tag works in tandem with the find my phone network of you lose something with a tag and someone walks buy with a iPhone connected to the find my phone network you will get a ping of where that tag last connected with the find my phone network...

so if the AirTag is miles away, but no apple devices around it won't ping right? also how does apple pull this off with other users, do they have to authorize their devices to be used as hubs to help track others?

Weird but true story: I could track my luggage that got left behind at an airport (through no fault of my own) because of the other Apple users at the airport where I started out and on the plane it was put on after I called and yowled the fires of h€££ down on the airline for trying to say they couldn’t find it/it was lost.

It was separated from me…but I knew right where it was. And got it returned to me as a result.

Fast forward to tonight: I didn’t realize the tag has to be within about 35 feet…and my sister lost my keys and tag too (…after forgetting her own at work). Uuuugh.

I wish I’d known that the tag is relatively useless if no other iPhone is around. Oy. So frustrating.

Yeah I got my car microchipped but I decided to get an AirTag in case I want to find him faster he usually comes home but this is just a backup method I live in a apartment building I’m sure a lot of people got iPhones here.

So basically it’s useless then says can be tracked anywhere but cannot track a pet if it runs away or if your luggage gets stolen

I could let my dog outside on a really cold day so she can do her thing, and then know when she's done, when she's on the porch, without actually watching her.
