What about capturing the emotional feeling of a scenery. shaped through the light and moment. This has much more value then trying to imitate a look made for another place on earth.

Since when is Austria located in Northern Europe? :D Just wanted to know, since I am from Czech and not call it North.

Maybe you meant Northern Hemisphere ?

I can´t agree less. I personally like it more when it´s warm and the sun is shining nicely but I also love the seasons and couldn´t stand living in an area without real seasons. Every weather situation can have its charm and it would be very boring when every production would be orange and teal. I also like dark and grey moody images.

This is the true: our Sun ☀️ (DoP master) sucks in Europe 😂😂

I know that feeling, greetings from Belgium
BTW here it is even flatter and even less fun, :-)
That is why we go to the Austria and Germany to see snow, hahaha

I am skiing now in Italy.. what are you talking about?
And this winter is one of the best photographic years... you had for 3 weeks clear blue sky and insane long golden hours... never seen better mix of colors.

Haha dude what the fuck are you talking about, i am from Austria and Thats just Not True. If you use fancy pancy words at least pronounce them correct. Its reFraction Not retraction.
Also the setup you have for your content is just overkill. i dont think Shitty natural light ist your problem
maybe invest in a workshop or get some books on this topics and you will have a better experience

"Prone to seasons" which "sucks for filmmaking". I think you're out of your mind. All big movies aren't shot in Hollywood anymore. They WERE, but now they're shot all over the place. In the UK we've got our cities being made to look like other cities precisely because they aren't Hollywood and can illustrate weather other than "too hot to do anything".

I hear you -- Alaska is a bitch to shoot during the dark months. At negative temps sh!t starts breaking.

It really comes down to the kind of things you shoot and stories you want to tell.

When I was in Thailand I noticed that all of the filters on my iPhone photo app looked good on almost all of my photos. Back home in Denmark they mostly suck. I didn’t think about the light being the factor, so I actually learned something from this video 😂

Still can't realize why your channel is growing so slow.. Though I totally agree on what you said in the video!

as a filmmaker in Toronto, I think you just have to embrace your location and its limitations. If you're in the UK, use the generally overcast skies to your advantage. If you're in europe, find the centuries old architecture. If you're in a rundown city, use that grunginess as a look. I'm in the toronto area so I've got stuff from fields, forrests, and skyscrappers all a quick drive away!
though, yes, it does suck during winter when you can't get people to agree to go outside to shoot cuz it's so cold.

I just think you are used to that orange/til combo, even Europe's light can be good depending on how you film it, and how you set the mood of the footage. Every country has its light and colors due to the hemisphere and geography, and if you can use it and can make an advantage in post, it always looks good (Brandon Li for example). And you would be surprised for a lot of Holywood productions that they were shot in Eastern Europe, but still retain the "Holywood" light.

They Shoot in Vancouver alot because light ist Soft and you can use Green Outdoor alot better than in shiny Miami or LA

I agree with you, dont be afraid to speak your mind. I work in South Africa now, try comparing SA to UK? Is there any comparison. We got some messed up weather here 2 in recent years but when that sun shines the place is a video makers dream. U can always tell European films from American films because of light. Some have used that to set up a unique aesthetic. So work with what you got.

that makes sense xD I thought my camera was crap after vacation in the states xD - europe really sucks when it comes to outside shooting. Also a big factor are colors of the surroundings from which light reflects. As northeren parts of Europe use pale colors with a lot of gray in them xD

I think it's all subjective. Sure, if you want footage of a sandy beach with palm trees, you will be better off around the equator but the reason why I say is subjective is because we're in Southern California and even though is sunny here 340 days of the year, I'm sick of it sometimes and I would love to shoot something darker, maybe with some fog. Kind of like in London or the type you get when you shoot in the north east in the fall or winter or maybe where you live. Here in Cali is all about ND filters, otherwise everything is overblown. Great for skateboarding or surfing videos but there is so much more that we can't do over here... Cheers mate!!

EEE-KWAY-TOR (Terminator) This rant feels like bait because I tend to disagree with most the feelings you have about Northern Europe. I think its just as possible to get soft light from northern regions as it is in almighty Hollywood. Its just a matter of when you shoot, golden hour won't be as pronounced for most of the year in your part of the world. But northern Norway and Sweden has an almost persistent golden hour for most of June. Sand in the air is big part of what makes the sky feel the way it does in UAE. Smog plays its part in the LA region. Vancouver is trapped between an ocean and the largest mountain range in north america so its just gray all the time. Its also cheap because of tax incentives. Maybe your DP friend's explanation got lost in translation. I can't wait to get back to Europe. If you leave Vienna for Dubai, leave your apartment keys under the mat ;)
