Before quitting your full time job, make it your side job and slowly build your portfolio, and gather clients and experience by working with other guys in your area.

Create, connect, surround yourself with people who already work as freelance. All this while earning a safe amount of money, and someday you'll be able to quit your fulltime job and start working on your own pace.
