Scorsese gives priceless advice that you don't hear much.

Actually, Quentin, all art forms works like that. That's why we don't have professional art thinkers but, rather, we have painters, sculptors, architects etc.

Directed Teddy and the mountain (my first feature) last year. Out this month on Amazon and other platforms soon after.
No degree. No training.
Just Practice, YouTube and forums.

“Then work with actors” is the hard part. Unless you have friends willing to appear it’s very difficult

It’s the same thing with making comics or painting a picture. It absolutely is.

I saw a video from Salomondrin aka Alejandro Solomon where he says that the way he got into the business was by helping his friends from film school with projects like short films and stuff like that and he did a bunch of these and once people saw his talent he got offers and it opened doors for him. My advice to anyone is to just start with something. Whether it’s a dumb short film or anything just try it use those to practice and get better every time and doors will open up but this only happens if you take action.

My son has made many stop-motion videos in his room with his lego figurines. They are quite good. (Yes I'm biased) I showed him these clips and told him who these people were and what they did and he got this "huh..." look on his face like he was thinking or processing. He didn't realize that was what it took.

Anyone ever notice how Raimi just always looks like he’s been possessed by the Necronomicon? 🤣

What none of them say is that you also have to be crushingly talented. I tried really really really really hard to be a director, and it turns out I just wasn't that good at it.

I videotaped an older homeless woman pushing her loaded grocery cart up a rather slight inclined sidewalk. She kept running into the slightest crack or hump in the sidewalk and oh boy did she have to wrestle with that cart to get it over those little bitty obstacles. I'm gonna post it and list myself as the filmmaker. I think that might be the best one I have.

Filmmaking is so much more difficult than any other art form because it’s a group effort. You need actors, props, locations, etc. and sometimes folks just don’t have access to those things.

I would like Iñárritu's advice as well.

All true but there’s a decent amount of stuff they left out. Like having to rely on others & actors etc. Finding likeminded people. It’s part of the job but in the very beginning it can be complicated but still doable.
