Is minimalism really over? Lately, there have been a few videos popping up discussing the fact that minimalism the trend, is on its way out. However, is you ask me, minimalism the lifestyle is here to stay. :) Since minimalist living is one of the things I talk about on this channel, I thought it'd be fun to join the conversation and share my two cents about it all. So... is this the end of minimalism? And if so, what does that mean for me and you?

Lots of love,
🌼 Vera

If people were viewing minimalism as a trend, they were missing the point.

I am certainly not done with ‘minimalism’ yet. It’s an ongoing process. It’s the difference between a diet or a lifestyle of eating healthy. Diets are often in or out of trend, but healthy eating is always ‘in-fashion’ I hope my comparison makes sense. 😊

I think minimalism and slower, intentional living is mostly about ignoring what’s trendy to buy, and do, and focusing on what is important for you. So who cares if minimalism isn’t trendy anymore. I honestly didn’t even know it was trendy! lol The more trendy something is, the less I’m interested in it.

I never thought of Minimalism as a “ trend “ but as a way of living a simpler life !

I started to declutter in August 2020 and looked for ideas on how to organize and came across your channel and other videos on "Minimalism", that was game changing for me. These videos made me realize I was allowing these items to own me and adding stress to my life. I have let go of over 50% of things that were just taking up space in my house and I can honestly say that I have no regrets except that I wish I would have learned about this sooner. I think the word minimalism might not be "trendy" for long because it will be a way of life for many. Thanks for all your encouraging videos. 🙂

Actually, I approached minimalism for the first time during lockdown. That is when I was forced to spend so much time at home and became aware it definitely needed some decluttering. Moreover, I spent more time than I had ever done watching YouTube videos, because on tv it was only bad news. And those on minimalism & simple living seemed the most appealing, maybe because they inspired calmness while the world was panicking.
I’m still on a beginner’s level and therefore I foresee a long way for me and minimalism.

I think minimalism can be over for those who see it as an interior design trend. But for those of us who see it as a journey and much more than just about material objects, we will most likely just continue that journey no matter what new trends will come up. At least that is what will be in my future.
Regarding the content popularity, I guess it is like you say: First of all, trends fade naturally. But second, those of us who see it as a lifestyle have been educated for a couple of years now. There is just not so much new information out there anymore. At some point, one has seen most of the "things to not buy" and "benefits of minimalism" videos and the amount of unknown content (content not meaning a video itself but the content in said video) is very low now. That is why I love that you also discuss other, but related, topics on your channel. :)
Lots of love from Germany 💕

I'm very focused on it. Still going strong on decluttering and buying less. I agree with you: it's here to stay. Living a simpler life is my intention. Thank you for your advice on many subjects.

I search for “minimalism” less because I got the information. I am using the wonderful tips and guidance, and it has become part of my life. I check in to minimalism again when I get stuck or when I feel a need. Love all your videos, Vera, thank you for giving us your insight.

Well, minimalism might not have as many google searches as it used to, but those who find the benefits of it will keep on practicing it. Like a virus, probably most of the people who were attuned to it have already found it, practice it and don’t feel the need to research as much. It happens to me with tiny houses! I used to spend a bit of time researching and watching videos and tv programs. Now that I live in my own tiny space I don’t feel the need to keep on researching, but I still love living in one.

I absolutely agree with Gretchen. Having a lot of stuff makes me feel “heavy”. Minimalism will always be my way of life. Less is more for me. Love you Vera.

I was a married adult in the 80s and very much took part in the materialistic lifestyle so prevalent then. It was all about consuming, buying, almost a status symbol. I learned how useless and empty it was. It didn’t make me happy. That began my minimalist thinking. I called it purging, getting rid of, letting go. To me it is more about finding joy in simple things, learning to make do with what you have and being content.

I’ve just found your channel. I have entered into a new dispensation time of my life and I have learned to appreciate life other than belonging. Although I may not get rid of everything. I feel that stress management has been a focus and eye clutter has added to my frustration. While I believe in second hand shopping it can cause me to purchase more. As my children are now grown. I’ve been able to shed a lot of possessions which made me feel happy or did it I think I bought things to try to bring me happiness. Figuring out who I am as a person has moved me into a gradual transition. Thank you for your suggestion and approach to minimalisms.

As always you are so inspiring! To me it is no trend and it goes beyond owning less stuff. It took me out of my material world and I live now with intention. It has added value to my life and brought me joy. ❤️🤗

For me, as a consumer in terms of knowing and implementing minimalism, I have heard and read a lot about minimalism over the past two years and have incorporated it into my own daily life. This continues to be an ongoing process that I still enjoy to this day. But still, for me, the knowledge is slowly saturating and I have my one or two Youtubers (you being one of them) that I continue to enjoy watching. But beyond that, I actually read and watch less in terms of minimalism. My own trend right now is towards climate change, animal and environmental protection. Nevertheless, the mindset of minimalism is still enormously important also in terms of sustainability and I don't think it will become "unimportant" in any way. Thank you for your content :) . A nice weekend to you all :)
