Dr. Hernani Oliveira (Universidade Federal do Parana - Brazil): Integrating molecular data into ecological networks : perspectives and challenges

Hernani Oliveira is a tropical conservation ecologist with fieldwork experience across different environments of the worldwide tropics, including the savannas and rainforests of Brazil (South America), the dry and rainforests of Costa Rica (Central America), the lowland and premontane forests of Cameroon (Africa), and the limestone forests of Rota island (Pacific). During these expeditions, I have worked with a range of techniques (DNA barcoding, mist nets, radio telemetry, and camera recording systems) and statistical analysis (geometric morphometry, network analysis, and ecological analysis) to understand the response of biological communities and populations to natural and anthropogenic changes on their environment. Bats have been one of the main groups that I have studied so far, but I currently have studies and papers published and going on with other mammals, such as marsupials, primates, wild cats, and armadillos.

First talk of the course: "Molecular methods applied to Animal Ecology". This course is organized by the young talent research fellow Dr. Hernani F. M. Oliveira (UFPR) and professor Dr. Fabricius M. C. B. Domingos (UFPR).
