Want to start dabbling in advanced push ups? You may have seen people doing side-to-side push ups and wondered what they’re called. Those are known in the calisthenics community as “archer push ups” and are a fantastic upper body exercise.

The archer push up is a great push up variation that builds strength beyond the basics. It not only strengthens your upper body and prepares you for the one-armed push up, but it also solidifies your core and makes you more effective at holding total body tension for other bodyweight exercises.

In this video I explain the progressions I personally used to go from the basic push up to the archer push up. I don’t recall how long it took me to achieve archers, but I don’t recommend putting a timeframe on these things anyway. Just follow the progressions in this video and work hard at them consistently. You’ll be doing archers in no time!

Started watching your videos back in 2020, did your no equipment work out for a couple months but gave up. Now in July 2023 I got back to working out, mainly calisthenics, and 4 months later I stumbled upon this video again. After trying every progression, I realized I can actually do archer push ups! This seemed unreal back in 2020, thank you so much for making these!

I think you are the only one who teach archer push up this good, other youtubers I see only teach using negative form only, which is still hard for me, but you teach us step by step from wide push, elevated platform, negative form, until success doing archer push up.

Right now I'm learning using elevated platform to train thanks to your idea, and I am getting better each day. I think I might be able to do the real archer push up one day. Thank you so much for this perfect guide

Good video, I realize now that I've been doing my archer-pushups wrong were I didn't have the elbow tucked into the ribs close enough. It's alot more challenging now and alot more rewarding.

This is the second video I watched of yours and I just subscribed! You take the time to describe in detail without over doing it so we can fully understand. Most of the bigger channels just kind of rush threw it. I'm brand new to calisthenics and appreciate the little extra explanation (steps). Anyways keep it up man I'll be back for more lessons. 😀
