Want to start dabbling in advanced push ups? You may have seen people doing side-to-side push ups and wondered what they’re called. Those are known in the calisthenics community as “archer push ups” and are a fantastic upper body exercise.
The archer push up is a great push up variation that builds strength beyond the basics. It not only strengthens your upper body and prepares you for the one-armed push up, but it also solidifies your core and makes you more effective at holding total body tension for other bodyweight exercises.
In this video I explain the progressions I personally used to go from the basic push up to the archer push up. I don’t recall how long it took me to achieve archers, but I don’t recommend putting a timeframe on these things anyway. Just follow the progressions in this video and work hard at them consistently. You’ll be doing archers in no time!
