One of the most musically versatile bands of the time. They could play straight pop, modern jazz or blues, or clever mixtures of any of those. The sax and vibraphone (not a xylophone) on this track were both played by band members (Mike Vickers and Mike Hugg respectively). Only half as good after Vickers and Paul Jones left; they veered relentlessly to the pop end of the spectrum, and as one can see from video clips, the three they left behind were clearly fed up at the crud they were often having to peddle to make a crust. Oh, and probably the best UK act of the 60s still to have all original members still living.

Paul Jones had magic to his vocal chords, stopped me in my tracks cycling around East Finchley in 1966! And it was a bit uncanny that D'Abo had so much similarity in his physiognomy when he took over? Many wouldn't notice the difference

I still have it on an E.P. Excellent treatment by the band and JPJ's vocals just perfect. The Xylophone break is magical.

Paul Jones of Manfred Mann --- one of the 2 or 3 greatest male rock vocalists of the sixties.

The were good and finding the girl group tunes! Songwriter Carole King didn’t get around to doing herself until 1980, on the wonderful “Pearls” album. She did it again in 2011 on the “Love Makes the World” album. In my Carole playlist with those, her (1962?) demo and covers by Maxine Scott, Dusty Springfield, Fontella Bass, Aretha, Merry Clayton, Cher, Linda Ronstadt and some act called She & Him! Thanks for the upload!

Much better version than Rod Stewart's. Bruce Springsteen was a huge admirer of Paul Jones's voice.

I never knew there was a rock-and-roll version of this song by Manfred Mann. I guess one learns a new thing every day. LOL! That's just like the song titled "Light My Fire." The Doors made the psychedelic rock version of that song in 1967 and Jose Feliciano released that same song as a slow love ballad in 1968.

First released by Maxine Brown in September, 1964. Reached #24 in the U.S. Best Version IMHO.
