What makes this special is it is at least in part her own life she's singing about. Gerry Goffin had gotten Earl-Jean McRea Reavis of the Cookies, a group they wrote for and produced, pregnant, after openly having an affair with her (don't think of Earl-Jean as a victim -- she was married also). The baby was born in July 1964. Maxine Brown's hit version came out that September. And Gerry actually wrote the lyrics.

She didn't get around to doing a proper recording until 1980. The she did it again in 2011. In my Carole playlist with that and 10 covers! Thanks for the upload!

Carole King is obviously an amazing songwriter, but like Maxine's version of this song, better.
