"Oh No Not My Baby" written by Carole King & Gerry Goffin was initially recorded by the Shirelles; however their recording was considered unacceptable, and Maxine Brown was asked to record a new vocal over the original instrumental track. Backup vocal was provided by Dee Dee Warwick. Released in September 1964, on Wand Records, "Oh No Not My Baby" spent seven weeks in the Top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100 in December 1964 - January 1965 peaking at #24. Maxine really did justice to Carole's original demo on this one, as did Dee Dee on the backing vocal (I always thought it was Carole herself!) -- super post, catman!

Wonderful by all who did it. Maxine Brown, The Shirelles, Dusty Springfield, Linda Ronstadt and its author Carol King. But Maxine's just is untoppable.
