Years ago, when I was about 11 or 12 years old, I had an old AM/FM radio. I used to play with it. One night, tuning around the dials, as a young person did in those days, I heard something unbelievable. It was Astronome Domine. Playing on some weird German AM station in the middle of my night! That was it. This track still moves me.

Saw them go through a lot of 'Ummagumma' at Newcastle City Hall in 1968. Blew me away! Travelled on the train with them after the gig! Early days for sure!! Brilliant memories!

This track, from this album essentially launched me on my lifelong career in sound engineering and event production. I first heard Astronomy Domine when on a school exchange trip to Arles in 1974. I discarded all my 1970's pop singles and moved onto Floyd and Genesis and never looked back. Amazing to think this seminal track was recorded above a shop in the outer suburbs of Birmingham, UK.

The version of Syd's song is all about Rick! His singing and his playing are transcendent. (The other guys are awesome too!) It remains a favorite of mine.
