Will Filling Your Hard Drive Slow Down Your Computer?

The results might surprise you! Many say that a computer will slow down when the hard drive is 70% to 80% full. I test to see if a computer will slow down (and by how much) when the hard drive is 70% full, 80%, 90% and almost 100% full.

I was copying data from my 16GB drive to my 32GB drive. I found this really helpful.
At least game lag won’t be such a problem anymore.

I believe the theory of a full hard drive slowing down a computer would be more accurate on a standard hard drive, not an SSD. I think this test would have had better results without the SSD. Standard hard drives are more prone to speed issues from fragmentation due to the mechanical read head, and with more and more use over time, you're going to be filling up the drive, while at the same time fragmenting the hard drive over time. The hard drive will struggle to do the most basic tasks due to the fragmentation and trying to read files with the mechanical moving pieces. SSD's don't have that problem. Let me know what you think, I could be wrong.

Very interesting. We have all probably experienced slow down as there are so many variables. I am a self confessed hoarder and every time I upgrade my pc I carry over the old HDD and integrate it. I use my first 500gb HDD from my XP build and it it horrendously slow to start up any application. The smaller HDD were thrown out begrudgingly 😅

His voice reminds me the announcements in airports and flight cabin ...

I thin the theory is more into running games rather than opening stuff. Like it will give you more fps drops etc since it uses a lot of temp files during a gaming session
