It also helps to give reasons like "take off your shoes because even if they look clean you can leave pathogens all over thr house" or "in my culture, its super rude to do that because it means you're treating the floors in my house the same as the street."
In my state, there are high rates of documented SA during doctor's visits so I wanted my boyfriend at the time to be in the room. But because I didn't say that reason and just said "please do this" he saw it as a chore and as something unimportant and waited outside in his car. Nothing happened to me except I was basically manipulated into taking a medication I didn't want to take. And I only told him months after why I needed him there. If I had given my reason and evidence, he would have stayed and would not have acted like I was a scaredy cat who couldn't go to the doctor's alone.

I was thinking about how parents are passive towards kids and they’re genuinely not trying to be disrespectful but clueless of what you mean. 😂😂

My dad would slap me upside the head and say take out the damn trash and mow the lawn before I beat you into next week. So yeah, assertiveness does work best.
