I hope you keep servicing reels and making videos to post. In the last few months I’ve very much come to enjoy what you do, Dennis.

Looks like a great challenge/ opportunity that I’m confident you can achieve if the owner wants you to do so. 😊

I love to see something that old with all the signs of age. You know it would have great stories to tell if it could!

Thanks for the video on the diagnosis and evaluation of repairing this Penn 720. I still have the Penn 722 Greenie that I purchased in 1973 along with a couple of used 720s. The only real difference between the 722 and the 720s is the Ball Bearing on the pinion and the minute-faster retrieve ratio in the 722. These reels served me well over the years on bluefish under 10 lbs and Spanish Macks under 5 lbs. The crosswind block, which I've replaced many times, is the major weak point in these reels. Too bad that Penn or the aftermarket did not manufacture a metal crosswind block for these reels.

I have a friend who took a block of aluminum and machined a crosswind block for my large Bretton 904 saltwater reel that had a broken plastic crosswind block. I’ll bet that could be done on this Penn. My Bretton is all but indestructible now as that block won’t break again. That is the only way I would fix this reel. It’s not worth it except as you say for sentimental value. I love your diagnosis videos Dennis. Have a great weekend my friend! — Chris

I went Flea Marketing yesterday and found some Reels that I need to talk to Dennis about, I know some need repairs.

I love these penn. I have two myself and I know the design isn't amazing and the gears aren't exactly super durable. But it's just a beautiful looking reel - the blue and white. Brown and black isn't as good but fishes well still. I also love the click when the bail trips. So satisfying.

I’ve run into similar conditions with a handful of reels I have. I’ve cleaned some up but they require parts that I’m not sure I can obtain, or obtain economically. As a person who gets all kind of reels, I’m sure it would be a good parts reel you could hold onto for future used or possibly sell to someone who may need it. Keep up the great work, Dennis! 👍

The broken crosswind block is part number
43-720. I’ve gotten OEM and non-OEM replacements on eBay from time to time for $15 or less

I just got a NEW in Box Olympic Pro-3000 spinning reel, the new (vintage) reel makes a slight noise when reeling. Do older reels normally make a noise or do i need to oil it?
