11 Places You SHOULD Be Greasing and Oiling Your Spinning Reel

If your spinning reel is feeling weird to you. Got some tightness that you don’t like, you may simply need to lube your spinning reel to get it smooth as butter. First, I’m going to show you my basic way that requires no tools and is a maintenance function for me. I do this periodically throughout the year when needed and it only takes a few minutes. My advanced lubrication that I do around once a year where I take a deep dive into the gearing and break out the grease and it can get involved and requires some tools. Do you have any recommendations of grease for older fly reels? I have some old Pridex reels that i need to clean up and reapply grease to but i dont want to use a grease that may react badly with the make of the reel.

I was instructed to only put grease on the main shaft, never oil. You said you were going to place a little grease right where that spindle goes up and down, and then put oil.

i like using Remington gun lube on my reels because it comes in a spray can and i found it to be cheaper and longer lasting than any other fishing reel lube ive used

Dumb question....is it possible to do this while fishing line is still on the reel? Once you remove the drag and spool, you should be good to go, yes? Great video....very informative! liked and subbed.

Hey:
Too much grease is as bad as not enough. If you overload the grease, it just attracts dust and dirt. Keep it light. There IS such a thing as TOO much.More is not necessarily better. Thanks for letting me rant.:<))))

If I dive into the guts of the reel then I'm taking all the parts out and cleaning them before i put new grease and oil in there. There's also a bearing in the front of the reel where the brass worm drive and spool shaft go through. I use the Lew's brand products and they work well also.
