The Jesus Diet - What Did Jesus Eat?

The Food Laws are much older than their codified form given to Moses. The distinction between clean and unclean was known even before the Genesis Flood, and so we read of Noah that he was commanded by God:

Of every clean animal you shall take seven pairs, the male and the female, and of the animals that are not clean, take only one pair, the male and the female. [Gen 7:2]

This distinction was set out clearly and in detail to the children of Israel by Moses in Lev 11 and Deut 14, where such abominable things as swine’s flesh, shellfish, etc., were strictly forbidden, God declaring:

This is the law of the animals and birds and every living creature that moves in the waters, and every creature that creeps on the ground. To distinguish between the unclean and the clean, and between the animals that may be eaten and the animals that may not be eaten. [Lev 11:46-47]

A generation later in Deuteronomy 14, Moses reiterated the Divine Food Laws once again to God’s Covenant People Israel, forbidding them to eat unclean food because:

You are a Holy people to the Lord your God, and the Lord has chosen you to be a treasured people for Himself, from among all the nations that are upon the earth. [Deut 14:2]

Recall the prophet Daniel would not eat the food prepared by the king of Babylon:

But Daniel resolved in his heart that he would not defile himself with the king’s food, nor with his wine. So he requested of the chief officer that he should not defile himself.
[Dan 1:8]

It was only when the Israelites fell into apostasy, as we have done today, that they abandoned God’s Divine Food Laws, and thus we read of them that they became:

A rebellious people ... a people that provokes Me to anger ... that burns incense upon altars of brick ... who eat swine’s flesh and the broth of abominable things in their vessels. [Isa 65:2-4]

GOOD AND BAD FISH

One of the parables spoken by Jesus illustrates the distinction between “good” and “bad” fish:

Once again, the kingdom of Heaven is like a fish net that was let down into the lake and caught all kinds of fish. When it was full, the fishermen pulled it up on the shore. Then they sat down and collected the good fish in baskets, but threw the bad away. This is how it will be at the End of the Age. The angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous and throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and
grinding of teeth. [Matt 13:47-50]

Apparently, the “bad fish” are Biblically “unclean” while the “good ones” are those having scales and fins (Lev 11:9; Deut 14:9). The “good ones” are no doubt, the kosher ones, valid for eating according to the Law of Moses, and the kind of fish Jesus ate.

UNCLEAN SPIRITS

Many Christians in our modern world have taken the position that unclean animals have somehow been mysteriously cleansed. However, when we come to Revelation 16:13, we still find unclean animals:

And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. [Rev 16:13]

John says, “I saw 3 unclean spirits like frogs”. So John is telling us that frogs are still unclean – not fit for human consumption. So are the buzzards, mice, snakes, the pig, and all the other unclean animals described in the Bible.

CONCLUSION

The Scriptures speak of the “children of God and the children of the devil” (1John 3:10). The children of God follow righteousness.

When we love God and obey His Commandments, we can be certain that we love God’s children as well. [1Jn 5:2]

Our Lord Jesus Christ and His Apostles kept the Commandments of God, and as faithful children, we must do likewise if we would follow in the footsteps of He whom the Scriptures declare to be, “the Captain of our Salvation”.

This is the Law regarding the animal, the bird, and every living creature that moves in the waters, and every creature that moves on the earth, to make a distinction between the unclean and the clean, and between the creature that may be eaten and the creature that may not to be eaten. [Lev 11:46]

May your obedience to the Lord’s Commandments produce health and blessings in your life. What did Jesus eat? He ate a kosher (clean) diet – and so should we.

And I will put My Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in My Laws, and you shall keep My Commandments, and do them. [Ezek 36:27]

For I give you good doctrine. Do not forsake My Law. [Prov 4:2]

Jesus said: If you love Me, then keep My Commandments.
[John 14:15]

You shall not eat any abomination. [Deut 14:3]

False Christianity hates Yeshua’s own words.
Yeshua made all food clean.
