Don't forget about the Kaifeng Jews, a Jewish community in China that's been there for over a thousand years, at least!

Half Ashkenazi half Mizrahi here, much love to all my Jewish brothers and sisters :)

I'm an Indian from Cochin, where there had been a fairly large Jewish community until recently. It is sad seeing that most have now gone to Israel. It means the end of such a fascinating part of my country's history. I love learning more about Judaism and I hope that future generations - especially the descendants of those who went to Israel from Cochin - will remember that such a community lived here and that they were a much valued part of our city's history. Its fascinating to learn more about Judaism.

0:26 Showing the Rabbi Ovadia Yoseph as Sephardic, when he was Iraqi, highlights the problem with defining the terms Sephardic and Mizrahi under only an ethnic definition. He was the chief Sephardic rabbi, because that is the religious tradition, but he was not a descendent of Spanish Jews.

Sephardic Jews settled in Ottoman empire and in Anatolia as well and were able enjoy religious freedom there compared to European contemporary kingdoms! I thought its worth a mention!

Very interesting video. Judaism is a religion but the cultures can be different. The Jews who grew up in South India had their own culture. Now most of them have migrated to Israel but still keep their culture. This is same for Christians in India; they have adopted several Indian cultures (Hindu).

It does not matter what kind of Jew you are. We are all one and we must all stick together as one. That is all that matters.we are now blessed with our own country ISRAEL.

The Torah has five African nations in it nevertheless, I was surprised to see that this video actually mentioned actually ethnically African Jewish people! Generally, many assume that Mizrachi and Sephardim actually originated in Africa, however, the video was accurate concerning Sephardi roots being European. Please remember too that the "Hamitic Hypothesis" may have actually caused more confusion than anything else in the 18th, 19th and early 20th centuries concerning African peoples which was formulated by C.G. Seligman.
Also, "Semitic" is a linguistic term and was never meant to denote ethnicity or "race" in any way. Moreover, the Torah is not an historical document but rather a book of faith and should be appreciated ONLY in that way what's more, Judaism is a religion and not an ethnicity! Be informed too, that the term "Middle East" is a geopolitical term that reflects modern-day populations and NOT the "ancient" anthropological populations irrespective of religion.

Ok I’m confused. If you’re Moroccan, are you Sephardic or Mizrahi? I’ve seen them used interchangeably at times.

You can thank the Romans for the Diaspora.

Also Kaifeng Jews from China exist.
And there was also a single Jew in Kabul, Afghanistan.

So many people come here to an innocuous short video about ethncities that practice Judaism to project their hatred in the comment section. So sad.
