Although most modern Ashkenazi culture developed with influence from the areas that are now France and Germany in the middle ages, with some Eastern European influences after they migrated east. Genetically, most of the European admixture in the Ashkenazi originates from what is now Italy back in ancient Rome. About 30% of our DNA comes from Italy, while only a few percent comes from Central and Eastern Europe because after the initial mixing, Ashkenazi had very little intermarriage with the host culture. This is probably because the initial Jewish immigrants to Italy were almost all men. This can be seen in the diversity of the difference in origin between mitochondrial DNA which is only passed down from your mother, and shows mostly European ancestry and the regular DNA which shows primarily Levantine genetics. This is why so many Ashkenazi can appear white despite having very little intermixing through most of their time in Europe.

Khazars were a Central Asian Turkish tribe. Turks such as Khazars would not cluster with the indigenous people of Caucasia and Anatolia but rather with other Turkish tribes such as Khazaks, Uzbeks, Tartars and Uyghurs.

It takes a huge dose of ignorance to assume that the indigenous peope of Caucasia (such as Chechens, Inguchetians, Circassians, Armenians and Georgians) could be used as samples for directs or close descendants of Khazars or any other Turkish tribe. This confusion may be understandable when we take into account the assimilation of Turkish language and identity by a large segment of the indigenous people of Anatolia under Ottoman Turkish rule, but should not be used as an excuse for those who wish to cement the false belief that Ashkenazian Jews are mainly descendants of Khazar converts to Judaism.

In addition to the vast majority of genetic studies on Ashkenazian Jews, which clearly show that they are mainly descendants of ancient Jewish men and Southern European women, there's also plenty of documental evidence to reject the theory that Ashkenazian Jews are mainly descendants of Khazars or even indigenous people of Caucasia and Eastern Europe.

The facts below prove my point:

1) The establishment of Jewish communities in Southern and Central Europe predates the Khazar invasion and settlement in Northern Caucasia and parts of Eastern Europe by centuries;

2) It is documented that the Jewish doctrine was popular among Southern European women but not among men, who normally rejected it for obvious reasons (circumcision, anti-adultery laws, etc.);

3) There is no trace of Khazar culture among Ashkenazian Jews, not even within Yiddish, their own German dialect. Quite the contrary. The main non-German elements within it are Hebrew, Aramaic and Latin;

4) There is no documental evidence of any massive migration of Jews from Caucasia or Eastern Europe towards Central Europe. Only the opposite. Thousands of Ashkenazian Jews were forced to leave Central Europe due to a wave of anti-Jewish massacres in Central Europe during the Middle Age Period.

5) Even at naked eye, it is obvious that Ashkenazian Jews do not have Turkish origins. They're the natural (and logical) outcome of admixture between Levantine and European populations (just like CNN reporter Hala Gorani or fashion model Gigi Hadid).

Taking all the above facts into account one is forced to conclude that only ignorant or intellectually dishonest people with an anti-Israel agenda are willing to claim that Ashknenazian Jews are mainly descendants of Khazars and therefore not indigenous at all to the land of Israel. The evidence shows the truth is quite the opposite. Ashkenazim have indeed an indigenous connection to it.

And even if we assumed that theory was true (which is not), it still wouldn't change the fact that most Jews in Israel are not Ashkenazim, but rather Sefaradim and Mizrahim - not to mention that about 20% of Israel total population is comprised by Muslims, Christians and Druze of North African and Middle Eastern origins (including people with ancient Jewish/Israelite blood). In other words, the case for Israel's independence would still be justifiable and legitimate.

If only Ashkenazi Jews were not mistaken as Europeans

The bickering over who's really Jewish or not when connected to ancient Israel (as recorded in documents by the Romans) is rather insignificant when you consider that even 10, 000 years of human breeding barely registers alleles and haplagroup differences among local populations around the world.
