Rocket League: Complete Guide To Flicks

This Rocket League video covers everything you will need to know about flicks in tutorial and analysis style up until you get VERY advanced with them. I've watched many tutorials on this topic before but none of them go into as much detail as I do in this video, in my opinion.

This video took a very long time to make. I got the idea during some coaching sessions when some players asked for tips on how to flick in Rocket League. They said they had seen plenty of tutorials on flicks before but none of them ever really explained flicks in the same way that I did and they all instantly had much more success than ever before after the tips I gave them. After going through that same experience with teaching flicks multiple times, I figured it was definitely time I make a Rocket League flick tutorial so everyone could learn from the same tips that I gave to those students that had so much success. No matter if you're bronze, silver, gold, platinum, diamond, champion, or grand champion, chances are, you can learn a lot from this video. I hope you enjoy!

Your idea about cradling the ball is exactly the kind of thing I needed to hear. I've been struggling with consistency on flicking the ball. I've been following the advice of most others, which is to hold down jump so my car stays with the ball, but it wasn't always working out. Now I also need to work on dribbling, but I think it's good enough at this point to be able to work on flicks so I can pull them off in a game. Anyway, I think your idea of cradling the ball is going to make a difference for me. I tend to only tap jump anyway so now I just need to work in the movements for the cradle.

Great work Wayton! Keep it up, man!

This is so perfect. I have been procrastinating looking for a good flick tutorial and now you just went and made what I'm sure is the best one in existence. Thank Wayton!

Me: Starts grinding ones again.
Wayton: Releases a video on flicks a day later.
Me: Okay, I get it, I'm bad. You didn't have to call me out like that...

Holy shit! Quality information aside, the editing on this video is insane!
Thanks for making this video. I just hit Plat 1 in 2v2 and I'm trying to improve and you're right - all the videos I've seen on flicks are so basic I couldn't find anything that talked about the things you mentioned. I knew I was going wrong somewhere and didn't know what to focus on.

From a fellow GC this is the best flick tutorial out there! Most RL mechanics have small "secret" maneuvers you must do during the set up but they're rarely talked about. Im sure the cradle analogy will lead to a lot of "Ah Ha" moments for people! Well done!

I have never been able to do a 45 degree flick before. The literal second you described "cradling" in this video, I booted up the game and was able to pull off a 45 degree flick straight away! This is a top tier video you have made!

your tutorials are always insightful. i've thought about the idea of the cradle, never had a word for it tho, and this vid helped me understand that idea very well. looking forward to training with these tips in mind.

This has been driving me CRAZY! I kept asking coaches and streamers how they flick because it kept popping off my car even when I listen to the usual advice (i.e. match the ball's speed, hold jump, etc.). But not "Cradling" my flicks is exactly why I've been struggling!

Thanks for your different perspectives on these mechanics, like this one and your shots video.

Wayton, this is literally one of the best rocket league tutorials I’ve ever seen. You just explained everything extremely well, your visuals and analogies just opened up flicks to me that I’ve been struggling with ever since I started rocket league (I’m champ now and can barely flick). Turning your car down to cradle, using that whiffle ball toy to visualize the flick, all of them just opened my eyes to the mechanics of the flick I never understood. Thank you.

This is the definitive flick tutorial. It covered pretty much everything a player need to learn about flicks, be it a high ranked player wanting to perfect their flicks or a complete amateur wanting to begin training flicks. Great video as always, Wayton!

Dude I mean this in the nicest way possible. You sound just like the skinny guy in zombie land, and the whole time you’re explaining it to me I’m like wow this dude survived the apocalypse and now he’s a beast at rl
