Jerry, in Northern Ireland, especially its two largest cities Belfast & Derry, there used to be checkpoints & soldiers with assault weapons on the streets. There were speed bumps in the city centres and, depending on how tense a particular period was, cars were checked for explosives.
I do not recall the Western media EVER accused the British government of totalitarianism, nor oppressing the native Gaels (Irish).
They blamed the IRA, while the majority of the population both the Catholic Irish & Protestant immigrants just wished to live in peace.
However, with Tibet & Xinjiang, the US-led Western powers not only seek to foment discord & unrest there, but they also take in terrorist groups (what they used to label the IRA) and use them to spread fake stories of oppression & fictional atrocities.
Someone has said: "If you understand why the US & her allies couldn't find any ge_no_cide in Gaza, then you will see why they say there's ge_no_cide in Xinjiang."
We are constantly being manipulated by the present day Earth's version of the Galactic Republic.

| like it. Jerry, you're an amazing, honest man. Yet, those supposed to be civilized will think otherwise. Enjoy while you are there. God bless.

Western politicians and media will keep hamering on these same issues forever since they have no real val8d issue to be used as attacking points. Tibet, HK, Taiwan, Xinjiang.,

Good for you going there. I have been on the Tibetan plateau some years ago. Travelled several days by bus with Tibetans coming out of Chengdu, where there is a sizeable permanent Tibetan community. By the end of the bus ride we were over 4, 000 metres elevation. Stayed at several small towns of which maybe 80% were Tibetan. In our final destination over 90% were Tibetan. The rest were Chinese tourists. Stayed several days besides a Buddhist Tibetan Monastery and interacted with the monks. A few monks spoke basic English., while most spoke either the local language or Chinese. It was a teaching monastery and some Chinese there were doing a retreat learning about Buddhism. I would like to return.

So it's not surprising that many people in the west shout "FREE TIBET", because apparently they are very FREE in TIBET. 😁😁😁

Interesting. When I visited China in 2007, we traveled to many small towns & some cities. We were never guided & I enjoy exploring alone. I never saw any military at any time or place. We were told that we would not be bothered as foreigners. In Tibet, the small town we visited showed signs of big changes ahead & one day a large group of young men seemed extremely agitated. They shot their rifles in the air & rode quickly away on their horses. Everyone else in town went back to their business. No one paid any attention to me at all. I did spend several hours walking around with a young Tibetan man who told me interesting stories. This was due to my having some knowledge of Tibetan Buddhism & the preceding Bon religion.

Negative comments are mostly made by people who have not been to or don't know anyone in the area they criticise, we find the opposite with positive comments.

For the doubters, there's a channel where you can get a more intimate look at everywhere in Tibet on the channel "Little Chinese Everywhere". She's been posting many Tibet videos recently.

It will be a great laugh.

Looks very peaceful from the footage you provided. Back in 1999, I had a professor who was from China, and he said the lives of the average Tibetan had improved a lot since 1950.
