The Easiest Way to Start Playing Lead on Guitar

Definitely take a look the masterclass I made with Ian on how to start jamming on guitar:

Going over the very simplest way to start thinking about playing lead or writing solos. Just simplify what chord you're playing over and find out where those notes exist on other parts of the neck. Simple, varied chord voicings and scales are all you need!

Listen to the new album:

Rocking the Framus FG14 for this one!

A little about me:

Sean Daniel is a man. A man of simple needs and desires. And the one desire, no, the one NEED, that stands above all is to spread the challenges, joy and intellectual stimulus of music to people of Earth and beyond.
Born on the mean streets of upper middle class suburban Chicago, Sean learned the ways of the world through the dizzying heights of success to the lonesome depths of failure and emerged with the promise of a better tomorrow reflecting in his eyes and fiery passion in his belly.
He plays and teaches guitar on his YouTube channel where he regularly releases original music and projects to the adulation of legions of fans, who often compare him to Chris Pratt and one time Ryan Reynolds. He’s currently in the market for a nice leather jacket.

Sean probably some the best lessons I have found on YouTube. I’m a retired NYPD Sergeant who has picked up guitar at age 57. Smaller hands but I’m practicing at least 1 hour a day or more for the last 5 months. I have Epiphone les Paul custom pro, a LTD KH602 and a Yamaha Acoustic. 5150 EVH 40w tube amp. So keep up the great work making my journey easier

Thanks man. I'm at the stage where I've been practicing different scales for a while & I'm just starting to solo over backing tracks. I pretty much knew all the stuff you talked about in the video. This just put it all together in a way that just clicked. I appreciate it. Keep on keepin on.

One of the best intro into basics I’ve seen . Concise and no waffling on. Thanks mate

For anyone to get anything out of this video, they'd have to know scales, the notes that make up each cord and the root notes, all the notes on the fretboard, scales, etc.. "The easiest way to start playing lead on guitar". You're a great guitar teacher...for advanced guitarists. I think what would help a lot would be if you started out your videos with a list of things you expect people to know already. And if someone knows all that already, they won't need your video.

This helped so much! Explains the "King Box" and why it works - it is the major scale. Add the minor pentatonic in the relative minor. Rinse and repeat for the IV and V. It all clicks! Thank you!

That's a very cool little snippet of lead insight. Even I can understand that - and actually make interesting things with it. 😄

Good idea. Thinking in terms of 2 chords at a time helps to simplify. In a 1 4 5 progression as you move from the 1 -> 4 or 4 -> 5 or 5 to 1 focus on each pair if you know the song well. But, rely on the pentatonic or scale of the key if you are unfamiliar with the song structure.

You legend Sean! You make the connections between chord play and hitting notes at various spots on the fret board so visual and fun. Got my loop pedal and can’t wait to jam tomorrow with the Masterclass. Thanks mate 👍

Another great lesson Sean! And a good example of how solo, improve really comes from the chord tones. The more chord voicings we learn, the the more scales we learn.
