I have started lilacs from cutting off a small branch, place it in water until it roots and then plant it. I now have lilacs running down the entire side of my house. All from 1 stem from my mother's plant. It works great.

My dad kept running over the the one my mom planted, with the lawn mower... and it actually that made it establish the roots, guaranteeing my dad seen it, the next year.., they are hearty

A friend gave me a part of Lilac plant, but no roots. I will put it in water, will it root?

yeah that's how we do it too. But only two out of about 6 have bloomed. It takes a while for them to settle in and bloom the following year or the year after that for us.

A good method, but frowned upon when rustling plants from the neighbors....they don't appreciate me digging up their yard....but I can take discrete cuttings.

How long after planting do the fresh cuttings begin to bloom?

Did they do OK for you? I'm just trying to figure out how to do this and a lot of videos say to dip the end in rooting hormone. I'm curious if it can be done without the hormone, in case I can't find any.

Can we get an update on the starts that you and your kids dug up and planted? Please and thank you! 😊
