Great fast video for those who have a puppy ready to train. Just remember everyone, not all puppies or older dogs will respond this way. Don’t feel frustrated … keep trying. Some dogs just take longer than others.. but be consistent. Once you start seeing success.. it’s a great feeling for you and your dog. Proud moment! :) This is such a friendly way to train and I have a Great Dane and I’m a very small person who needs her dog to behave on trails and around others. I love it when others see me and know my dog outweighs me by 50 pounds easy.. and we are having the best time because I know I can control him which means we can trust each other. And yes, for 30 years I’ve been walking dogs larger than myself (Danes, Dobermans, Rottweilers, labs, etc) I’m never intimidated by their size because of all the training work we had mastered together♥️

Nate i love how you work with other trainers and take their direction and you never appear arrogant and you are happy to get help from others and give help so willingly. Mark of a great trainer 👍(and human!)

Thank you Nate for educating.I don’t particularly like this tool but it works for some people. I like that you very open minded and still show things even if you don’t use them yourself🙏

Many thanks for your instruction, way more clearer than other clips

The timing is the key. Experienced trainers have the timing down. They are teaching the timing.

I use a gentle leader, I have a dog who will lunge and jump. The only thing that kinda bothers me is the fact that the person in this video mentioned that they use a prong collar (and kinda recommend using one), the issue with prong collars is that if the dog pulls too hard it can cut them (it’s rare but can happen) and using them can give the dog emotional and physical pain, it’s not safe and I seriously recommend a flat collar or a head collar. If you can a dog with aggression issues or you may live on a livestock farm and your dog chases them, use a vibration collar or even and E-Collar (test it on something other then your dog first- don’t let your dog be the first to try it since I really could hurt them depending on size), I don’t normally recommend e-collars but they are so much better then a chock-collar (chock collars and slip leads are very different) or a prong collar- please think and do a lot of research before getting into dog training (go through many different sources!)

Thank you for reading all of this😅

great video very informative! i just have 1 question, what do you mean by the “okay fine”? my dog is in the stage of when she has it on for longer than a minute she starts to freak out and try to get it off.. i’d like to know what the okay fine means so that i can implement it and maybe my dog will behave better with it on. because i tend to take it off right when it bothers her because i don’t want her to have a negative experience with it. hope that made sense. thanks!😊

Halti was a game changer for us. We used a prong in the past and it was helpful until we encountered a triggering dog and the tug on a prong would throw him over the treshhold when he was bately controlling himself. But halti gave me the confidence of controlling a big dog (def more than a prong, choke chain) and didnt throw him over the edge in a stressful situation. Do I wish to stay on it forever? I dont know. Hopefully not. I wish I didnt get comments on it so much as why does he have a muzzle because it is not a muzzle. But I feel much more confident walking in my super dog busy neighbourhood with a lot of reactive dogs with non caring owners.

I used the Halti and it works. Period.

This is just crazy.
People are against any other tool that dog trainers use but these gentle leaders are no different if trained right from what I have seen.

I just have a question about 7:03. She rewarded the dog for turning around but it was the head halter that forced his head around, so why would we reward at that moment? Should I assume we just want the dog to associate turning toward handler whether it's on his own or forced by the head halter? (There's a hole in my knowledge here, so I'd love to hear from anyone! 😄)

QUESTION TO HALTER USERS - DO YOU HAVE A BRAND PREFERENCE AND WHY?? What is your experience like working with halter?Which breeds do you have?? I have a cane corso and she knows very well she'll win any battle of strength. Although my dog loves training, is well-behaved and walks loose leash well - if she wants to go she will. I hope that this will give me more confidence that I will win in that "what if" moment.

This is not how to properly fit a collar. You didn’t talk about how to actually fit it on and what’s the proper two fingers one finger how tight it goes.

A gentle leader?!? Why Nate, why! Nothing but respect and admiration for you to see you go down this route. Terrible tool!!! Martingales, slip leads, and prong collars (if needed) work 100x better than this garbage.

Prong collars get a bad reputation yet these are encouraged… terrible.
