John’s story always reminded me and seemed very similar to Layne Staley’s (Alice in Chains) troubles. Which I believe occurred simultaneously or around the same time as both bands were becoming huge household names in the early 90s.

I didn’t know until recently that in 2000 or 2001 John and Bob Forest had made a trip out to Seattle at the request of Laynes mom to speak with Layne and get him to take another shot at rehab. I’m sure they wanted to show Layne how far John had come to get clean and how it was possible even in the most advanced years of addiction. Unfortunately it didn’t take and Layne died a couple years later.
