I keep a years worth of canned and dried foods for my wife and I. A good part of the year my raised beds provide lots of fresh produce.

your family members will certainly test your pantry supplies when times are tough. The people who claim to be relatives and in-laws often act as outlaws in manipulating you to share almost everything with them primarily & often completely due to their own lack of preparedness. Hey they even have berated you for having a few extra canned goods and basic staples on hand for non-specific emergency. Family will surely guilt trip you whenever it behooves them to do so. Parasites exist and hide out as family members and hangers-on of acquaintances and needy neigbours. There is no means of avoiding all these lecherous people. Sad that people think that you are responsible for them when legally and morally you are not.

If this is even 1/2 became true, martial law would have to be declared!
Could you imagine what would happen in cities like NY or LA!
And then what would you do when the government comes breaking in your door to see what supplies you have!

Why doesn't someone state how much of each item we need? Is it for 2 weeks, 2 months, 2 years or more? If canning, how many quarts at a minimum to fill? How many pounds of beans, etc? No one ever says. One Amish person stated she always has 500 homecanned items on board in the pantry at any given time. Wow, how do seniors on a small limited income do this?
