I thought this video might be a ‘downer’ but it is not. Your information is right and I’m with you on all of these.

That jam you pointed out that you buy is so much more expensive but OMG SO WORTH IT! And it lasts long 'cos you don't need a lot per sandwich or toast.

"this salt actually has minerals, it's very healthy for you" is a myth.
If one prefers one type of salt because of texture or taste ok but to say that they are more healthy is untrue, generally the amount of other minerals in salt are so little that they are nutritionally negligeable. Idk about this salt specifically but stuff like Himalayan salt are a marketing scam.

Homemade pasta sauce is generally how I go. I rarely buy the jarred stuff, and when I do it’s mostly the convenience factor

Good job I agree with you one hundred percent on all the foods you mentioned and I’m behind you all the way I stoped buying those too

Thank you for this and spreading the word. I stopped buying these things YEARS ago. So easy to make salad dressing and much cheaper. I love Dave's Killer bread when I need a fill in for my homemade bread- I make 3 loaves at a time and freeze the rest. I NEVER buy pre-cut fruit for yhe exact reason you stated. I cut everything myself for my platters- and in season fruit. Thank you for the terrific video!!

On the cucumber front, we changed to cocktail cukes. Makes it quick to use only what’s needed.

Cranberry sauce is so easy in the Instant Pot. I made mine that way this year and I'll never buy canned again.

I agree with most of these, but find that in general pasta sauce needs a bit of sugar. I actually was bewildered when I first tried Raos because it was all acid and couldn't figure out why everyone raved about it. Depending on how sweet the tomato products you use are, a bit of sugar balances the acidity of the sauce. Of course I prefer to control this on my own vs buying store bought sauces, but zero sugar in a red sauce tastes bad to me in most cases

Apples: Braeburn and Gala and Pink lady are all full of flavour and juiciness, I know because I'm a Horticulturist b6 trade and the first 2 are very old varieties which I know very well and only buy them unless other old types are being sold, good luck but please try these varieties, they are the best, better than Golden delicious etc 🎅🙂😷, Oh yes, MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU ALL

Does Redman have iodine? I just worry about thyroid health without it
I love pickling cucumbers! I peel in strips and they turn out so good!
We make our own tomato sauce for Italian nights, so easy! Tomato puree, diced tomatoes, garlic onion and herbs. Delish!

I made a double batch of your Instant Pot cranberry was gone in four days! Also, another reason for making your on anything, besides the sugar, is that so many items contain more salt than we should have.

Great video! I just found your channel and am excited about trying so many recipes. One note from a geeky scientist… be careful to watch your diet for sufficient iodine intake if you aren’t using iodized salt, especially if you are pregnant, vegetarian or vegan. They started adding iodine to table salt in the 1920s because so many people were iodine deficient. Most people do not realize how important iodine is to many aspects of their health.

I soooo agree with you on many of these. I wish I had never given in to my kids and husband! I still buy some of these because, well, kids and husband LOL. I try to avoid canola oil, sugar, corn syrup, HFCS/G-F. I was so disappointed to see Campbell's tomato soup has glucose-fructose (HFCS). It's terrible for us, it's really damaging our livers. And it's in everything.

I totally get that with the bread. In the US they put super weird stuff in there, if you have ever been to europe and walk through the bread isle just the smell of the the bread there is totally different, american bread isles make me feel nauseous .

These are all good ideas. Yes, the ice cream/Hersheys is a thing. Haha. I would try the English cucumbers if they caused less burping. Regular cucumbers make me burp. Thanks.

Get a Freeze Dryer and you can make your own fruit snacks. I don't buy spaghetti sauce. I make my own which is tons better than store bought.

The only thing i look for in the ads is bananas. I buy a 40 lb box at a decent price and slice into quart freezer bags, then put those into a gallon freezer bag. A ready dessert or addition to hot Oatmeal. You can mix with fresh frozen apples from your tree and fresh frozen peaches or plums...all from your own trees. We top with a bit of whipped cream or warmed organic nut butter that freezes on impact! You can eat thatnor use as a topping for whole homemade pancakes. Toss in a little tapioca flour to make pancakes a little chewy. That fruit combo alone is especially good in summer. You can blenderized them for a smoothie or just banana for soft ice cream. Thank you for helping so many!
