Top Gun Anthem (Guitar)

This was a fun soundtrack song. Original composition by Harold Faltermeyer & Steve Stevens. I hope you like!

There are a few parts I played differently such as the section from 3:06-3:10 (sounded better this way). Have fun guys!

When I was in sophomore year of high school, they had just started coming out with decent flight simulators on iPod touches. Our math teacher let us play with our phones at the end of class if all of our in class work was done, was one of the few that let us do that.

Anyway, I’d be sitting there playing my flight sim and Mr Martin asked me if I have ever seen top gun. To his surprise, I said absolutely and it’s one of my favorite movies of all time. Along with Smokey and the Bandit, Memphis Belle, good old shit.

He then asked me, “Do you know the very first line of that movie?”

Thought about it, and I really didn’t.. I said the request flyby line, although I knew that was wrong.

He said “Goodmorning Scott.”

And I instantly got it. I will never forget that.

He then called me maverick for the rest of my time in school and he was goose. Ahh good times

Amazing!! You did this song proud!! I played this at my best friends funeral service in 2005 (not me on the guitar but the original song over speakers) it was our childhood theme song together! He was a firefighter so his service had about 500 people attending...was very proud to let this anthem play for him!!  Glad I came across this video....really really well Nice job

Other the shabby backing track and everyone complaining about your hammer on rather than a pick, you truly nailed this because you TOTALLY get that this song is not about the notes. You flawlessly followed all the minor details that put the "feels" into it. Tremolo hammer ons, timing, harmonics... you hit them all like a pro and better yet, you did it better than ANY other you tuber has so far.

Bret, the best cover of TG theme that I have come across. I have quoted lines from TOP GUN since I first watched the movie so many years ago. While living in San Diego, I worked next to and lived near Miramar, and of course visited all the filming locations (yep, I lacked a social life at the time). Excellent cover!
