In this Top Gun Anthem guitar lesson video. I will show you how to play all of the guitar parts for this awesome instrumental track from the original Top Gun movie track note-for-note.

The tuning is standard tuning, E A D G B E.

The Top Gun Anthem was originally played by guitarist Steve Stevens (who plays with Billy Idol among others) and is heard throughout a lot of the huge 80's movie hit Top Gun. It was written by Harold Faltermeyer.

For the main melody sections, there is nothing too technically intense here to worry about, just some really nice guitar melodies that will make you feel like you are soaring through the clouds. Hehe

This Top Gun Anthem guitar lesson will show you how to play the entire melody through both keys that it is played in. The entire instrumental is pretty much just these two sections repeated (with a few fills thrown in there) until a killer guitar solo towards the end.

I will also take you through Steve Stevens' solo note-for-note. The difficulty level is ramped up quite a bit for the solo. The are some death defying licks thrown in there, but once you get it under your fingers, it is a lot of fun to play.

What is great about this guy is that he provides how to play songs in the part of the neck that the original player used. This is crucially important because the nuances, tricks, and effects in the original tracks are much harder to replicate if we play the same notes but on a different area of the guitar’s neck.

How fun... The chords are two major chords, a tritone appart, commonly heard in space or fantastical music such as Star Wars or Star Trek... I've always associated that sound with a gigantic hangar full of different ships and pilots running from one place to another...
(Sounds specially cool if you keep going up, i.e. F#-C and then the high F# and then high C etc....)

On top of that, we have that major riff sounding, the melody... It has a very noble vibe, using the root, perfect 4th, 5th and 2nd... Dunno why, but it feels majestic, like an eagle soaring free through the skies...

Whoa! These lessons are awesome. I'm up to the solo section now (God help me!) and I would never have been able to to it without these instructions. I'm a total beginner. I notice my fingers just don't move the way yours do on the higher notes, especially the 20th fret where you catch thr g string on the way down. I'll get it!
