Great review Joe. So far on both the saloon and the touring your reviews are the only ones that make sense. Weight is not an issue when you have 1000 Nm of torque. People love to hate on these things, but I think BMW M division have done a great job bringing this type of car to market with the EU regulations in place.

Thanks Joe.
As I read someone else say recently, I am increasingly disenchanted by new cars but this is the first time I have looked at an M car and thought “no thanks”.
As Joe remarks, there is much blame to be laid at the feet of governments and regulators who are tying car companies in knots. But, equally, I cannot find anything aesthetically pleasing about this enormous vehicle.
And then there are the bolt on screens for which there is literally no attempt at integration into the form of the dashboard.
Similar comments from Clarkson recently and Harry M. Feels like peak car for petrolheads is now in the rear view mirror.
I am sure this M5 is highly capable and undoubtedly faster than anything I have owned from M division to date but I’d take any of their previous cars over this 😢. Which seems so sad given we finally get an M5 Wagon - I should be remortgaging my house for one but no…

Another fantastic review, your comments at the end about the C63 and regs were spot on too (the new C63 is such a disappointment, it may be very fast, but it doesn't feel like a C63 anymore. At least the M5 retains that wonderful V8).
