One of the best decisions I made was to get rid of careless lawn man. Repeatedly told him he was cutting my fescue too low, and had a lot of bare spots. He told me grass would not grow in shaded areas. Once I raised mower to 3 inches and consistent mowing, grass filled in, and lawn looked better than ever. I wasted a ton of money paying lawn man that was stubborn and cut everyones grass same level regardless of type of grass. Some of these lawn services are just about quantity and how fast they can mow your lawn and get paid. There is no lawn care, just lawn mowing.

Back in the day I used to look up bikini videos but……I’m a father now……things have changed. Glad to be here and I’m going to keep watching for helpful tips

I started mowing my lawn every 4 days instead of once a week. What a HUGE difference in the look and health of the lawn. My neighbors think im crazy but it’s also good exercise. Plus, by mowing twice a week, the mower doesn’t bog down and leave clumps of grass all over. I’m able to move faster and it’s effortless. I have a large yard and a push mower so the ease is appreciated. I see the landscapers on my block checking out the lawn when they come by. Haha

I never thought I would care about grass this much until I got my first home…the last owner really didn’t do anything to the yard and just used it as a area for the dogs to crap in…my husband and I would love to get the grass nice looking again.

I had nooo clue there were so many types of grass…I’m learning so much

Your comment regarding frequency is spot on. I only mow once a week but my buddy mows twice a week. We do pretty much the same maintenance but his lawn is greener and fuller than mine. I just don’t have the time.

I live in the mountains of New Mexico, and we didn't have a lawn at our prior house. We moved into a new house, had one summer, and my husband had the lawn looking great. Unfortunately, he passed away from cancer treatment complications that winter, and I had no idea what I was doing last summer with the lawn. The snow finally melted (we are at 7, 500 feet) and the lawn is not looking great this spring. (Plus, we have a Weimaraner puppy who has created a bunch of burn spots in the back. And, she came back inside the house with several pieces of the irrigation system she dug out. So, I have a lot of repair work to do.) Thanks for all the info.

Honestly this is almost exactly what I've been doing. We've been in our house for 3 years and I've taken over from the retired guy across the street for the nicest lawn. I got a dethatcher for this year so we'll see how it turns out but I think it will do well. It hasn't been fertilized since at least the 90's where it was turned into a rental.

My issue here I just bought my first home last June and this year I started taking care of it. I did ortho spray for the weeds two applications because on Wisconsin it’s been raining a ton. Last Wednesday I did my first crab grass granular by Scott’s. Hope I am doing it right :) learning a lot from your channel and hope to get my yard looking nice :)

I'm constantly reminded of the fact that I've got a mixture of bermuda and tall fescue, and how impossible it is to get them both happy. But, with a mix of sunny and shaded areas, it's been the only way I've been able to achieve coverage in both areas.

Wow, I started watching you maybe four years ago and I’ve learned a lot from you. I know you have a lot of projects going on, I really see this video as you getting back to the basics. For me my lawn has never looked better and has never been healthier than it is now. I have to thank you for that but I also have a lot of people that I watch in different videos that have helped me. I really like the way you made it about the basics, I feel like as a homeowner we all have very little time to spend on the lawn but we want the most impact of our time.As I watch this video I see the things that I need to focus on which is the basic sort of a kiss approach(keep it simple s\]ped:). I get approached all the time at work because my friends and coworkers know I’m very passionate about my lawncare so they ask me what they should do. I always go back to what I’ve been shown in time is to know your lawn, keep it at the 1/3 rule, feed the lawn when it needs it but focus on the soil first. I think this video is some of your best work I really appreciate the content, I hope to see more of this. That way when someone asked me what they should do to their lawn I can just share your content.

Great summary. You’re right. It doesn’t happen overnight, but i think you can get 80% of the way there by winter and your lawn just keeps looking better along the way. Semi-instant gratification. :)
