Jae Elle, it's says it's been a year since you've posted. Have you found a sealer yet??? It is so frustrating not to be able to maintain the beautiful colors from "flame painting"! I'm newer at this I'm sure, but I've searched and searched and tried countless products and processes! Just thought I'd check!

Have you found any good product that will keep the patina?

For years I have worked with copper, I love the beautiful colors I get when painting with the torch, alas the colors fade unless kept in a zip lock bag (umm, jewelry that is, I can't fit my kitchen sink into a ziplock bag, not sure how well it would function bagged up anyway! ;p haha

So for years, I have been chasing some way to seal the copper while keeping those purples and blues. All colors will fade to the orange color if any wax or sealant is used... which is a travesty. If anyone does find an answer please share! I will be eternally grateful. Heck, it's so annoying at this point (serious about those years of trying products that don't work) I would happily give someone a copper gift from my creations if this riddle could be solved! *sigh* I see Jeanne asked the question before... which is why I added the pleading and such to my question LOL.

This video was great for the flour/salt/vinegar to clean the copper. This will help tons since I have a sink that gets cleaned often until I figure out how to preserve its patina and protect it from water and such.

Thank you for the helpful video with the beautiful copper bowl! Really that was beautiful!

That reddish color on the copper is beautiful. I've tried and tried to get that color but all I get is an orange color, is there something special that has to be used in order to get different colors on copper? I've seen some reds, blues, and purples obtained in videos but never seem to be able to duplicate it. Any suggestions? BTW, thank you for sharing, I learned something new flower and salt to clean copper.

I tried this today and it works amazingly well, but we didn't have enough salt so now green spots are coming up.

Hi, would you mind telling me what the name of the spray you mentioned in this video, I have tried many protective materials but they alter the colours immediately and that is disappointing to say the least. Thanks for any advise you can offer.

Could this method also be applied to brass for similar results?

that is most definitely NOT a patina. Thats heat coloring. you may want to learn your definitions before posting bad information.
