I was a professional cleaning woman for 27 years; I worked for millionaires. Wright’s Brass Polish, Silver Cream, and Copper Cream are the BEST. Unfortunately, since the pandemic Wright’s quit making the brass polish; it seems impossible to find anywhere. I also sell vintage and antiques online and I always polish metals. Here in Florida, brass items are cheap because they turn quickly in the humidity. It’s a great item to flip! Never tried salt and lemon juice. I’ll give it a shot.😊

I boil mine in a pan of hot water and white distilled vinegar and then lightly scrub with a dish sponge. It’s effortless. Works great if there’s paint on them too.

Ok I had to ”test this lemon & salt idea, even though I watched your video😉…I said I’m REALLY going to rest this. I had a large brass “vase” type that I found in a goodwill about 20 years ago (yes! It’s that old.) it has these “dime size” 2 green and 2 blue cabochons that circle around the middle - beautiful piece. But I’ve neglected it. It used to be outside on a patio table. I mean it’s been outside - 365 days a year - for at least 3 years.🙂😄…so this was going to test your lemon & salt theory. Well, All Hail Ms. Laura! To my utter surprise it worked. It frigging worked😁 she’s absolutely gorgeous now, a pinkish gold patina right now, but non the less gorgeous 🥰🥰…Now here’s the kicker…a jeweler friend was inquisitiveness about what I thought were plastic/glass cabs on the piece. He tested them…they are emerald and sapphire cabochons and an Egyptian piece!!😮I won’t list what he priced this piece at, however let’s just say she will not be outside EVER AGAIN😁…and to think I found this at a goodwill 20 years ago! Absolutely one if not my best find ever.😍Thanks so much Laura💜🦋

Using ketchup also works. I like it for small items like jewelry, cuz you can soak them in a puddle of ketchup.

Yes the lemon & salt, I learned from my mom. My mom and dad lived in Morocco, dad was in Navy. She watched a local lady clean the brass trays.
It’s so cool to see you clean brass the same.

If life gives you lemons... it better also give you a lot of brass. I have a bunch of brass in my home. I never cleaned the patina off, but I like how it shows it's age. But now I'm very tempted to try cleaning Thnanks for sharing your tip.

There was a show you did that you said you would do a show on how you restore wood . I would love to see it.

Bar Keepers Friend works great not only on metals but it is gentle enough to take gray and dark utensil marks off of corning ware. I have made some shabby looking Pyrex and Corelle look new again with dulling it. But that Wright's cream is on my list now. Also, the lemon and salt can take stains out of vintage linens scrub it in and put the piece out in the noon day sun for a fews hours and the results are amazing on tough stains and the rusty looking old marks. Love your show Laura! Congratulations on the house! How exciting? I just can't wait to see what you do with it!

You should also do a video on what pieces should not have the patina removed. Great trick with the lemon and salt!

Another way to get your lemons to produce its maximum amount of juice, is to microwave them for 15 seconds before cutting them open. Then roll them as Laura showed in the video.

I found a recipe on the internet....1/2 cup vinegar, 1 tsp salt, a little flour to make a paste. Let it sit, rub and rinse. It worked beautifully.

Using a limescale remover spray really does the job quick and easy. No mess 😉

Hi Laura..watching you polishing the brass make me remember my dad😅 coz he will do the opposite!🤣 Remember last time i said that my dad collects everything brass, he also a dealer..before pendemic, he will always travel down to Java Indonesia to buy amazing brass collection and most of his customers do not prefer shiny brass (same goes to my dad 😅) so he goes extra miles to convert those shiny brass to dull looking patina using bizzare chemical process..and he invented those processes by himself.. genius my dad🤣 And i still remember back in the day he allows me and my siblings help him with the final step of the process which we need to brush a talcum powder all over the brass..then walla, you have brass collection that looks 1000 years old🤣🤣

When you start decorating your new home, check out the movie on YouTube Lost City starring Andy Garcia. It's set in Cuba in the late fifties. You must see Garcia ' s character's office...the colors and furniture, etc. ..a mid century dream...lucious and opulent. Check out the window treatments, lamp and walls. Very elegant. You'll love it. Good luck with your house.
