They need to wrap the gun, ammo and knife in plastic make it air tight so the elements want cause corrosion.

There's a great app to help you Keep track of where you hide it its called " a tree stand app " I love it !

Please please please remove the firearm from your Cache. If Doomsday doesn't come and some kids find your cache will hiking throughout the woods you're going to go to jail if that firearm is misused and you are the owner. Maybe only hide ammo for the gun you plan to have on you during your adventure.
