What a beautiful reading. I do hope I will find the reader in other recordings. Her interpretation was absolutely imperative to my envisioning this beautiful story. Thank you.

I loved the audio read! I look for long stories that I have read. I play them at night and lose sleep especially when the reader is so excellent as this effort. Thank you so much. It has been raining for hours as a perfect accompaniment for an English novel.

I've just started listening to this audio book and the person reading has such a great voice and is reading in a calm slow way that is so pleasing and relaxing. I was on another channel and the person was reading the book so fast I had to concentrate to keep up with what they were saying. Also my hearing is poor and it's difficult for me to understand some words especially if there is an accent involved so I appreciate the cc being on this as well. I'm going to sit back and enjoy this audiobook💖

Innocent, yet judgemental Catherine could not discern the malignity in Isabella and brother, yet through her novel-reading, was quick to erroneously judge the unfortunately dispositioned father of her other friends. I love this clever demonstration of the moral in this story.

I know it's not generally thought Jane Austen's best, still I think it's the book of hers that I'm fondest of.
I also love the film with Felicity Jones - again, didn't win any Oscars (don't think it was aiming to) but one of my favourite films.

Read the Mysteries of Udolpho first and then this book and you'll be laughing your way through the latter. Northanger Abbey is a comical satire of the influence of the shallow "Gothic Novel" - most evidently the Mysteries of Udolpho, the protagonist's favorite book (I love this book's suspense but there is admittedly a lot to ridicule about it). Austen seems determined to prove that the merits of the gothic novel were not sacrosanct and above parody and burlesque. No character is spared Mansfield's satirical bite in Northanger Abbey, except perhaps Henry. We may think her aim is mostly directed at Isabelle, James, John, and General Tilney, but I think a closer read will indicate the naive, impressionable, heroine, Catherine is mocked the most. Her inflated descriptions of the Abbey and presumptuous character judgments are constantly referenced to the descriptions and characters she'd read about in books (assumedly gothic novels). It is not easy to satirize a protagonist - we tend to resist it, so I guess we can partially understand why the publisher resisted putting Northanger Abbey to market. In most of her novels, including this one, Austen, unfortunately, has to tidy up her satire at the end with stereotypical endings but you can't help but think that if she was given a freer reign, her novels would be far more subversive.

Lovely voice, but shouldn't "Magdalen Bridge" (in Oxford) be pronounced "Maudlin Bridge" because named after the college, unlike the church (& street named after it)?

Narrators should not have hissing S pronunciation- there should’ve no distractions or speech impediment in a reader. Cannot listen
