My dad's sure way to not go to school because faking was to eat a piece of a raw potato. It genuinely rose the temperature and made people feel horribly and if someone was stupid enough to eat a whole raw potato, then someone would experience real poisoning.

My mom and my grandma were both nurses. There was no faking sick in our house.
Sadly because my grandma was old school when I'd get ear infections (because the city beach was literally across the street from the city municipal water treatment plant) she refused to let me take painkillers because the "Doctor needs to see the pain you're in to understand how severe it is". Her answer to having a garden tractor trailer full of dirt dropped on my foot was "It looks fine, walk it off". I dunno where she got her credentials for nursing, but fuck me

That jumpscare eyetest, so hilarious, I remember many years ago, before youtube was a thing (yes, an era such as that once existed kids!), and experiencing my first jumpscare, had a subwoofer by my feet cos awesome and when the thing made it's noise, I felt movement at my feet (sub moving air in and out) and jumped so hard I smashed my knees on my desk, that hurt, a lot!!! :P
