Be sure to pick 720p for best sound. "Train Kept a Rollin'" "Shapes of Things" and "Over Under Sideways Down" by the Yardbirds, with Jeff Beck on lead guitar and Jimmy Page on bass.

I tweaked the sound quite a bit to improve the overall effect: gave depth to Keith Relf's voice, boosted instruments, and made a new stereo mix.

This is from a concert the Yardbirds performed in France on June 27, 1966. Jimmy Page had only joined the group about a week prior and hadn't played bass much before.

Picture quality is pretty good, and I've done what I can to make it better.

This is a re-re-up, further improved.

I make no claim of ownership to this material. I am merely putting it out to entertain people under Fair Use.

My first concert Aug 5, 1966. I was 13 years old and sitting in the 3rd row. That concert became part of my DNA

Jimmy Page kills the bass on Over, Under, Sideways Down. Per usual, the cameras completely miss Jeff Beck's Shapes of Things solo. Fantastic performance and sound!

Thanks for sharing this gem! Jimmy and Jeff together totally amazing! Jimmy is now 80 and sadly Jeff has passed away, but they still were best friends all that time.

That build up then when the band explodes and page goes nuts on the walking bass… *chef’s kiss*
What a barn burner.

This was the lineup I saw when the Yardbirds played Daytons Department Store in Minneapolis, Minnesota, August 1966. I thought that was Paul Samwell-Smith on bass. Many years later people I found that were also at that show told me it was Jimmy Page on bass. And on Jimmy Pagw’# FaceBook page he said it was his first time in a band (he was mainly a studio musician at that time), and how surreal it was playing in the 8 th floor auditorium in a department store.

Never realized what a tight and solid drummer he was with all those fills. My earbuds were exploding. Nice audio enhancement and upload!

The Yardbirds along with Keith Relf should have been so much bigger then they were. ;But, they were so ahead of the curve that they were on something else by the time the rest of rock or pop caught up.
They put out the first hippie type song and the first photo punk song.
They were so innovative and creative they just were marching like 10 steps ahead of everyone else.

It's fun to imagine what could be if Jeff and Jimmy could somehow stay together. But 2 geniuses in one bad would never work, especially considering Jeff's mercurial nature. Thank God it even happened for a short time.

Thank you for posting. This is such a classic. Too bad the cameraman didn't focus on Jeff during his solo on Shapes of Things. At this point in the band Jeff had a Les Paul and Marshall Stack.

Great stuff. Love old UK TV show appearances. No lip synching or backing tracks were allowed. Everything had to be live.

1:17 Shows how, for the time, they were a really exciting live group.
