My husband recently became disabled, and in an effort to find peace, part of our new daily routine before I go to work, has become sitting on our back porch together early in the morning. He likes to have an apple and will throw the core out in the yard. Well, we found that the rabbits LOVE apples! So, we have now made it part of our morning routine to "check on the bunnies" because they have learned that apples are on the menu. They have even come up on the porch with us, hoping for a treat. This is pretty much a free activity because he throws away the core anyway. I will admit, on a couple of occasions, that I have cut up apples just for the bunnies, but I do buy them on sale. LOL! For us (me especially) just connecting with nature is priceless.

My husband and I are in our 30's. We thought we were being weird by being practically frugal and content with more of what we have. We see we are not so weird!

My husband and I have been married for 60 years. Ten years ago he was diagnosed with dementia and our lives have been turned upside down but in a good way we have grown closer and much more attentive and loving towards each other I am grateful for every day I have with him. I enjoy watching your YouTube channel it always puts a smile on my face and brightens my day. I thank you for all of your inspirational thoughts.

My simple joy was sitting and talking to my 83 yo neighbor, she is just the sweetest, she was waiting for her ride to go to bible study, she always has a smile and kind words for everyone she meets, she warms my heart and soul.

While out running errands today, I stopped and spent a delightful 30 minutes in my local library, browsing their shelves and catalog. I never take my library for granted since I'm a voracious reader and would go broke if I tried to purchase all the books I read. Just a really bright spot in my day today. And it's free.

My daughter taught my 10 yr. old grandson how to make pancakes from scratch (with adult supervision). We get a little ray of sunshine every time he makes them for us whenever we visit.

One of my simple pleasures is taking walks and coming upon free items people put out for people to take. Today on a walk I came across a large bowl that was nice and deep for mixing and making double batches of things. I needed one but didn’t want to buy one. Voila! Someone was giving one away. I love when stuff like that happens. It’s like a treasure hunt. One of my other simple pleasures is watching you and Paul. I get all cozy in my bed and I watch the latest episode. It is free and I always feel cheerful and positive after. So…thank you!

I just have to share with you the joyful evening I had yesterday. My neighbor dropped a leaflet off at my house inviting me to come to her home last night for "grill and chill." I worried about going, but decided to anyway, because this was a block party and I had not met many of my neighbors in spite of living here since 2008. We live such isolated lives! I asked what I could bring and she said, "Nothing." This goes against my culture, so I did bring some left-over pineapple upside down cake that I had made for our Sunday brunch. It was praised far beyond my opinion of the cake.

I met many of my wonderful neighbors with whom I share much, but Mike, who lives up on the corner, brought his guitar and sang so many songs from my youth that it was amazing. He sang Margaritaville, House of the Rising Sun, and a plethora of songs in that rock/country/soul genre. The food was amazing and amazingly simple - hamburgers, hot dogs, beans, chips, water and soda. It was just the most wonderful evening, and they welcomed me and my service dog, Nike, with open arms and it was the most incredible blessing I had experienced in a long time. Nike and I had to leave before dark, because I fear tripping and falling since my arthritis and spinal stenosis make walking a challenge, but Nike met 2 furry play mates and gave lots of kisses to the 19 month old baby. She loves children so much!

We need to have this kind of thing more often and with more folks. We have much more in common than we do apart. It was a very inexpensive evening, and a very enriching one as well.

Thank you, too, for enriching my life.

We enjoy walking our dogs on our land watching them sniff all the critters out and just enjoying the beauty of nature. Free as it gets 😁

Simple pleasures since I got to retire: cooking, reading, cleaning, napping, walking, library, just sitting outside 🌺

serving others, to me, is such a joy selfishly that I get whether it's food or a little card in the mail or just a little handwritten note sometimes just to tell him I'm thinking of them and it's not a text or an email! it's something that they see! my hubby and I went to go visit a man that lost his father had been taken care of him for over 20 years and just lost him when he turned 100. he was so lonely and really doesn't have anybody so my husband and I went to go see him and we brought him just a couple of muffins and he the look on his face, Emmy, give us so much joy and we ended up staying a couple of hours and just kind of catching up and now we plan on doing this on a regular basis for this guy! it just made our day! we have a day of Fellowship that we just go and visit people and bring them little food bites or whatever and it just brings us more joy than they probably receive! that is something that no one can give you! we love your videos you guys are doing such good work out there and we really appreciate you two! :-) Dawn at Rich and Dawn in Minnesota

We should all realize that tomorrow is not guaranteed to any of us and we should appreciate the little things in life a lot more. I've made a conscious effort to be thankful each morning that I made it another day in life. I'm also thankful that I have a roof over my head and I have food to eat because there are many people in the world who aren't so fortunate. Enjoying life and being kind to people is what's important.

My simple joy today was finding beautiful Thanksgiving themed paper plates and napkins at a Goodwill in a town an hour away. My hubby had a Dr. appointment and the store is right next door, so we stopped in. I only use paper plates and napkins when we host a holiday or special occasion. My family is big and I don’t have enough plates for 30+ so I do indulge in paper. These paper plates and matching napkins had Walmart price tags on them for $1.97 to $4.98 but were marked at .49 each. They had so many of them, so I stocked up with 2 designs, one for this year and another for the next time I host Thanksgiving. Our morning drive to his appointment was beautiful, the trees in Iowa are spectacular right now. I made us each a breakfast sandwich and put our morning coffee in insulated mugs, no need for a fast food drive through. We truly enjoyed our day! Keep those great tips coming and thanks for always reminding me to find pleasure in the simple things. ❤

How timely this topic was! My husband and I just discovered a wonderful fresh meat butcher shop in Myrtle Beach where we live. We scored 40 lbs of fresh, cut, large sized chicken wings this morning for $38.00. Yes, $38.00 for 40lbs! Split the order with a friend and came home to use our thrift store ($1.00) food saver to package up 3lb bags for the freezer. Simple pleasure was making those for dinner tonight in our air fryer. Also planning to serve them at our annual Christmas Eve friends gathering.👍🏻

I have been teaching myself to crochet for a winter project and have found that yarn can be expensive. I was at the thrift store with some friends and tucked away in a corner were skeins of yarn for a dollar apiece. There were 7 of them so I scooped them up. I am now crocheting wash clothes and will wrap them around a nice bar of soap tied with a ribbon to give as small hostess or thank you gifts. I got the joy of finding the yarn and learning crochet and hopefully bless someone with a handmade wash cloth.
The cards you found were a real deal. Ten cents a card!! Don't you just love a bargin?
Hope you and Paul are both feeling well again. God bless. Your love of life and finding joy in everyday is a blessing to your many viewers.

I like to take time each day sitting on the porch looking at all God created and listening to nature. Occasionally, jets or helicopters fly over from a nearby military base reminding me of those who serve to protect our freedom.

Emmy, your sunny disposition always lifts us up. Yes, living in the moment is the way to true happiness. We just filled our birdfeeders as the weather is turning cold. Watching the birds is so entertaining.

Give someone a truly heartfelt compliment. How many times do we go to a shop or get a service or help from someone when it is their job or task but they never rarely get truly heartfelt thanked not just a polite thanks/no thanks but a genuine thank you and why their help is so important to you and your family and it really truly means so much. When you do give a heartfelt thanks in return you get an instant heartfelt smile, it is so beautiful. You literally may brigthen or even save someones hectic or tough day, lets them really appreciate that they are super important and that feels brilliant and costs absolutely nothing. My favourite.
