He basically said “I’m not mad nor am I disappointed, I understand actually, just be sure to speak of your experience” so much respect for the dev

"Hey I pirated ULTRAKILL"
The ULTRAKILL dev: "Do what you gotta do, respect."

It’s like being toxic and messaging someone after destroying them to rub it in and they reply with “GG bro, you got mad skills”

Here’s my word on this:
I love Stardew Valley, I started playing it at launch while I was in high school. I didn’t have my own pc or anything like that. Just had my own “borrowed” school laptop. So I pirated Stardew Valley and enjoyed is heaps. (10/10 would recommend to anyone)
Fast forwards to today, I ended up buying the game on iPhone, Steam, and Xbox.
If you can’t afford a game it’s fine.
If you can afford it, it’s also fine to pirate it to see if you like it, if you love it then support the indie developers 😊

Guy: "I pirated your game!"

Ultrakill Dev: "I mean shit ok, I did that shit all the time"

missing followup: he said realistically people who would pirate it probably wouldn’t have bought the game anyway, so it’s not really a loss to him. plus they could go back and actually buy it some time in the future if they like it. what a dev.

indie games devs are just happy seeing someone playing their game, and the gaming community respects that

My friend is the embodiment of that phrase, that dude got my pc up and running with new parts out of the kindness of his heart and I couldn’t be more thankful ❤

This is true. I pirated all my music since I was a kid which obviously helped me develop my sense of taste when it comes to music. I later started making beats and selling them. I never got rich but it did put me in contact with very talented up and coming rappers, some of which I extended my resources and knowledge and helped them put on their first shows and helped them get on the front page of some older popular music downloading sites. I got kick backs because, technically I was their manager but since I was just a guy trying to help, didn't realize these labels applied to me until people referred to me in these titles lol like I said, I never got rich but I had some good experiences that I otherwise would've never had if I never pirated the music I wanted to hear so I eventually went and bought every CD that contained even just one song that I pirated at any point as a way of paying the artists back. I didn't realize how harmful pirating music could be until one of the guys I was "managing" had a full album posted on a pirating site with more downloads than his previous album that was paid. That was discouraging enough for him to stop making music all together so we never got to see if it was a way of building hype for the next project to see if the new gains would be worth the little loss but I really believe it would have helped. He died almost 10 years ago now though so who knows.

But that dev has a great point. Culture shouldn't only be reserved for those than can afford it. I remember telling people about albums and they'd go out and buy them. I became the go to guy in high school for brand new music that people haven't heard yet and sure some people would pirate them but most of the people I referred would buy the CDs since I wouldn't tell them where to download it for free abs most of these kids weren't computer savvy like that back then
