I honestly wished "I want it that way" by the Backstreet Boys would have made the list. There's always a huge chance that people join in if you start singing this song randomly in town at night.

What made music recognizable
1900s: Rhythm and meaningful lyrics
2000-2015: Movies
2016-Present: _Memes_

I am always surprised at some of the songs that Joel has never heard.

The only one I didn't recognize was the very first one. But once we got to the 80's, I really started jamming out. Love how you could see the trend of the types of music through the years.

I cannot believe that you weren't familiar with Nat King Cole's "Unforgettable" there were so many covers of this song through the years. For me personally, love listening and singing along to "Sweet Home Alabama" when I'm alone at home, or on a road trip. I don't have to have a group of people around... but I was 12 when it came out and always enjoyed this song. Missed on the lack of The Pussycat Dolls' 'Don't Ya" and Pink's "Never Not Gonna Dance Again".... and Beyonce's Put a Ring on it song....

This gave me nostalgia vibes and unlocked memories I didn't know I had

Whenever Joel doesn’t recognize an iconic song, I die a little inside.

I think "See you again" is a more recognizable song compare to Hello. Fast 7 was just so big and the Fast series up until that points have a huge pop cultural impact.

That stretch from like 1963 to 2005 was an incredible line up. Just one legendary, incredible song after another.

I’m in love with older music forever, basically anything under 1994

Careless Whisper is a fantastic song along with Never Gonna Give You Up in an unironic way.

The thing I've noticed about Pink Floyd is that while they dont have the largest number of individual hits, their albums as a whole are just...magical.
Imo, they aren't overrated, and are in my top 3 favorite bands.

As a 90s baby growing up in the US, I can attest the Spice Girls were very popular 😅

As soon as I hear, ,Singing in the rain", it immediately threw me back to a very awesome show that I attended many times. They had a performance to a self made remix of that song and I love it so much. I know the person who choreographed the performance (he's a friend of mine) and the dancers who performed it on stage every night (also friends of mine). Watching it always put a smile on my face. I even recorded it once and uploaded it on YouTube to save it forever (it's only accessible via the link, so if you wanna see it, tell me).

"Pink Floyd don't have that many bangers"
I mean, they never intended to write bangers; they never intended to make cheap radio hits
You're supposed to listen to the whole album; all the songs on the album are tied to/connected with one another and they tell a story; there's a theme, a message; it's much deeper, more philosophical; it's an experience
It's called art

I’m 99.9% sure that “never gonna give you up” has been more recognizable in these recent years rather than it was in 1987

Pink Floyd in the 70's were absolutely incredible. They put out 4 amazing albums in that decade.

Songs, that sound EXACTLY: check Madonna's "Frozen" with Russian singer Linda "Vorona" (I'm gonna leave you the Russian letters so you can copy-past: Линда - Я ворона ) . The story was like the successful sound producer of Linda's Max Fadeev offered his skills to Madonna's team and sent this work as an example . And never get back call 📞... but Madonna soon release a new song.. Which is not TOO close to sue her but clearly the same idea (watch both videoclips) and very close music theme :)

Blinding Lights is definitely 2020's most outstanding song. You might not like it; you may think it sounds alike many other things; but that is a different story.

I was surprised to not see country roads on the list. Even kids today know the song
