The transitions from the 50's to the 60's and the 80's to the 90's are so severe it'll give you whiplash.

Even though music has drastically changed, this video makes it feel so natural.

My dad, at age 15, purchased a recording of “Yes, We Have no Bananas” and played it all the time (yes, this was around 1923-1924). He played it so much that his big sister finally got sick of it, took that record off of the turntable, and sailed it out of the window. When Dad told this story at a family get-together back in the 1980s, my aunt asked if he ever forgave her. “Uhhh, it took awhile.”

Really Good list but 2012 was Gangnam Styles year. I remember having school prom around that time and Gangnam Style was the only song that got every single person to join in with the dancing, Call me Maybe might have a more iconic Motiff, but Gangnam was still the biggest song at the time

"What can you say in a love song
That hasn't been said before ?"
God I wish someone would bring this guy back and play WAP to him 💀

The fact that “let’s get it on” was next to “Sweet Home Alabama, ” the next to a song written by Freddie Mercury is just perfect

its actually crazy to me how many songs from the 60s to the 90s are so popular, even though lots of this generation are not old enough to remember their release

Music has switched focus over the past 100 years. It was about the melody, and ever since rock it switched to being about the rhythm.
Edit: well ... this is getting tiring. might have to delete this comment :/

It's crazy how the music changed just in the 50s. It went from Mr. Sandman straight to people like Little Richard and Elvis Presley who had a completely different style from the artists of previous years.

The fact that Sandman and Tequila take place in the same five years time is actually mind boggling

This was awesome! Praise to whomever compiled it. I recognized almost every song. The one with all the horses running around, my granddaddy would have been 15 that year and it's so cool that I could also show my children a little bit about their great grandfather! And boy did this bring back memories from a long time ago. (I'm 56)

It's just so crazy how the vibe of music just gradually increases its limits by the time the 60'-70's roll around and the limits just kept getting pushed harder and much more often

from 1968-1970 just really shows how much The Beatles dominated the music industry, and that’s only a tiny fraction of how big they were. (and still are.)

Songs that I thought were much older than they actually are:
"What a Wonderful World"
"Another Brick in the Wall"
"Yeah!"
"Viva la Vida"
"Hello"

I was born in 2000 and I know some songs in this list, I gotta say I enjoy listening to these as much as today's songs. It's amazing to see how music thrives over a century.

crazy how a lot of these songs have been made into memes and/or are still commonly recognizable today. im 13 and i recognized most of these. really shows how music is timeless
