Michael, these mag flip-thru vids are great. We are totally the same generation, and I love the trip back in time. Thanks, you rule.

Seeing Tony live in a little club changed it for me. The dude was absolutely mind blowing.

@ 5:16 The Ultimate Ozzy, that is the one you were probably referring to. Jake is AMAZING!

I love that era ... when I listen to Trevor Rabin or Steve Vai deliver sophisticated ideas to grow "SONGS" destined to be radio hits. Your magazines are worth gold

I love my guitar magazine collection. I can’t seem to be able to get rid of them. Really enjoy your videos Mike, thank you.

GFTPM was the best guitar magazine ever! Cool covers, performance notes, ADA ads and shrapnel records!

I had two Ibanez JEMs, bought them both in 1988/89. A yellow one and a floral one. Unfortunately I traded them in many years ago. Oh the folly of youth.

4:52 The Performance Notes were excellent and super insightful. GFTPM was the cream of the crop in a golden age for such magazines. Month after month of excellent stuff. What fun to go down memory lane... thank you!

I really enjoy your videos! I have this issue and many others from this time period. I still have cartoons of guitar magazines. Those were the days before the internet. Between magazines & getting together with other musicians is how most of us learned how to play. Playing along to records was fun & we would also use cassettes as they were easier to stop & rewind.

Still have my ‘Rockit’ pink Peavey Vandenberg from 1989. Bought it new in Leeds, UK. Great guitars.

Tony MacAlpine I still like some tracks of his first two LPs. Afterwards he lost me. Though there was this melodic rock thing he did in 1990. Called, ahem, Macalpine (the band). I guess no one heard about that one. Ha, just found that I got the CD "Eyes Of The World". Will give this a spin next.
